I hope all our forum members in Sydney are OK. I'm also hoping this situation resolves soon and peacefully...

Thanks Maryann. Our daughter works in Sydney, thankfully not too close but they were told to stay in their building. I have two friends that work right nearby and they were in lockdown. Thankfully they are out and home safe now.
Let's all hope for a peaceful end soon.

Thinking of all involved.
I am on edge I must say.
I also am a fair distance from the central business district. My sister in law was in a building in lockdown as it was called. She's home now according to social media msgs.
The situation is still unresolved. Far better though if it resolves with no harm to hostages, police and bystanders. I believe in peace for all, so will hope for the gunman to be detained. Wishing the hostages and their families hope and best outcome for them especially.

can you just imagine being terrorised, in the dark in there ... omg its unthinkable. its 12.26 in the morning and no sign of anyone leaving till at least light.
imagine being a family member or friend or son or daughter of someone held captive.
Our police force are skilled and im sure it will resolve itself with nobody hurt.

I had read it had ended. What a dreadful situation. It makes me paranoid about travel , places , locations. Horrible and unbearably sad.
I've woken to the news of a very sad end to the situation. Three dead including the gunman. My heart goes to the poor families.
My girfriend, who lives in Brisbane, but often goes to Sydney, tells me she's been in that cafe several times - so far, yet so close to home - terrible !
I woke up to the word "Grieving" on the radio.
Oh dear, R.I.P. the two people that died in the early hours of this morning.
My heart goes out to their families and friends. And also to the survivors who will suffer for years.
What a terrible thing to happen to what should be a joyous time in this beautiful city. The work of terrorists or a madman I guess it doesnt matter but it is a one off so we can take some confidence from that, I guess.

My thoughts are with the families too. As Sassy says we all have opinions and some of us experiences but this is not the forum to discuss. Perhaps we can offer support by PMs. x
So so sad. How terrifying. Just people getting there morning coffee. That Lindt cafe I'd the first place my daughter and I go to when we go for a trip to the city.
All my prayers are with all of those people and their families.

It's true that this forum is a safe and happy place for us all. I responded yesterday to the generosity of impulse to Sydneysiders, as I was about to post to Fasting Today, when I saw the Sydney lead.
I was fasting yesterday, but felt a lot of nervous anticipation, so I appreciated the sincere warmth of the co-fastdayers. I thank the empathic gesture of the posters, so I'm sorry for any clumsy words. Sydney is in shock today. Me too.
