What not to read on a fast day
05 Apr 2013, 11:12
Tarquin Hall's Vishnu Puri detective novels. So many references to wonderful Indian food, so evocatively described I can smell the damned things! And he's veggie, so nothing is off limits *drool*
Along those lines don't watch Chocolat (despite Johnny Depp being in it!) , Babette's Feast and under no circumstances watch or read Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate factory!!!
On a fast day, it is amazing how many references to food come along my path. The hubby and I are doing this together. After we have made it through the day, we take an hour or two at the end of the night to watch a little TV. Sooooo many food commercials - it's torture - everything looks so good! Stay strong!
Last night, Hairy Bikers Best of British followed by Masterchef, were definitely poor TV choices for me :frown:
I accidentally watched Man V Food on a fast day...I don't recommend it...
I usually find Man-v-Food puts me off eating!
I am a masochist. I always watch food shows on the telly, fasting or not fasting.
Those M&S food ads are torture - especially over Christmas for some reason

Don't you mean the S&M food ads? ;-)

Ah yes, me too - I rather enjoy them anyway. 50 shades of gravy.
Don't get on Facebook on fast days, that's when everyone decides to post pictures of their desserts!
Also avoid Italian detective fiction writer Andrea Camilleri. He writes some fantastic Sicilian food. Although I don't find it a problem, if you do you will be tortured - about every three pages! ;)

Fridays are the worst for people posting food pics on FB, I find. There seems to be a new trend for taking home baking to work on Fridays at the moment, probably thanks to the Great British Bake-Off...
