Ive a roomba  as well - love it very much she cleans away all of the upstairs with no complaints (I got her 3 years ago for xmas from my husband!) Best pressie ever but I would def recommend taking out an insurance as mine has had to go back twice for repairs- once brushes slipping then faulty battery.
Apologies she has cliff sensors - doesn't fall downstairs & returns to her base.

Doodle wrote: Evie - well, my new Insinkerator tap is installed - it's brilliant! (I would be worried if I still had young children though as the hot tap doesn't have a child safety switch, but another version did have.)

I will post again if there are any problems with it, but so far, couldn't fault it :)

Hi Doodle,
Thanks for this, I've definitely got to get one. No problem for me either with young kids, as my 'baby' is 24. I think the Insinkerator ones are the nicest looking too, so will probably also get this brand. Think I'll need a professional to install it though, as neither of us are great at DIY.

Living in Switzerland, we decided to hire a cleaner. The cleaner interviewed us, and decided that she could cope with us! To say she had little to no personality would be an understatement. Her name was Erica...I say was, because the characterless thing got my goat, so we replaced her with Erica MKII a robot vacuum cleaner. Ok it is not a like for like replacement but it worked with my sense of humor. We then invested in Arni... As in Arni Schwarzeneger..an inflating hissing shirt ironing device. We got on ok...me being a puffed up fool sometimes.

Erica is now stored in a cupboard somewhere, and Arni has been traded. My wife now sports a ghostbusters like backpack vacuum, and I stand before the temple of ironing board whenever I need to iron a shirt....

Life goes on....bless Erica

My great-niece has one but has to hide it from her 18-month-old who seems to think it's for his amusement. He likes to chase it and ride it! He's a big boy and I doubt it would do either the vac or him much good.

Just ordered a scooba.... Will report how well it performs in a few days.... From what I have read, it takes a few goes to get the floor really clean but then it's supposed to be good....

Will see what the cats think of it too ;)

Well, after much research and deliberating I decided not to get the robot. I couldn't find any with a low profile to get under most of our furniture.

Instead I've invested in a Dyson DC44 cordless vacuum. Its lovely! It actually make the chore kinda fun, has more power than my old corded hoover and is less effort to user. Some might think the battery life of 20 mins isn't worth the price tag, but for me that's a bonus - I'll never have to vacuum for more than 20 minutes at a time. Wonderful!

I will say this video makes me want a Roomba. It's a cat, in a shark costume, riding a roomba, chasing a duckling

I have a Roomba vacuum cleaner and a Scooba floor washer.

I would never, ever go back to an ordinary vacuum cleaner - Roomba is just brilliant for everything, including dog hair! It goes under my sofas with no problem, and is much less noisy than an ordinary vacuum cleaner.

Scooba is OK for washing small-to-medium floors, but on a big floor needs two sessions - and the cleaning liquid is quite expensive (although, to be fair, it doesn't use a lot, so I expect the bottle to last for a very long time). I find the noise Scooba makes a bit irritating, so I have to be in another room when it is washing a floor.

Hope that helps.

Moogie, I have that dyson wand cleaner and I love it too! My only issue is that I have carpal tunnel and it's quite heavy for my wrist on a bad day... saying that, ANY frm of floor cleaning is hard on a bad day, so I just don't clean that day

As a plus, my girls aged eight are easily able to manage the dyson wand, and suddenly they are much more willing to help with the housework. I've got a lot of hard flooring and have yet to find the short battery life a problem.
