Marks and Spencer food sales offset clothing weakness

Marks and Spencer sales rose slightly in the first three months of 2013, as good trading from its food business offset a fall in clothing sales.

Like-for-like UK sales were 0.6% higher in the quarter, helped by a 4% increase in food sales.

Clothing, where the company still has an 11% share of UK womenswear, has been the weak spot for M&S in recent years, despite a raft of initiatives

So...let me get this right... :wink:

M&S food sales are up as we all pile in twice a week for our Fuller Longer ready meals...and their clothing sales are down as we all wait until we reach our ideal weight before replacing our old clothes.

Who knew we were so powerful!! :rotfl:

Not me. I haven't crossed the threshold of M & S for many a year.
No ready meals bought anywhere, either.
Heee heeeee!!!

My friends tell me that when I go to London I help the economy!!!
I think Sainsbury's and Waitrose's vegetable and fish sales have gone up locally, and the greengrocer van has a new customer.
