Love it too! Total suspension of reality, I know, but I love the clothes, the motor cars, etc. But can imagine the awfulness of being a laundry maid or the kitchen skivvy!! The food they used to eat looks amazing - was there no obesity I wonder?
Think they were so busy working hard all day they worked it all off, the ladies of the house were extremely thin though.
I love Downton. I think the ladies of the house stayed thin because there was no snacking between meals, plus they would have had to walk miles in those houses just to get from the drawing room to the dining room! No central heating would have meant a lot of energy going into just keeping warm too!
Have a lovely day out, Suchard007. The weather's not great here but I hope it's better for you.

Had a great day, managed to dodge the showers. The grounds are so open and extensive - really lovely and the inside was really interesting. Well worth the visit
Sounds lovely! I've just googled it but they are sold out of pre-bookable tickets for summer 2013, so I might have to wait!
Last week, went to Charles Darwin's home of Down House (English Heritage) and it was a wonderful place.

Sounds like a good visit. I too loved the programme and also the music that goes with it.
