I've so enjoyed these posts! Makes me want to re-visit them too.

I suppose if you can have more than one trip the first one could just be a quick look round to find which parts of the country you would like to come back to! The UK is incredibly varied for such a small country!

Some places, eg. York and the Lake District can get very crowded in the summer season too so if you can come a little earlier or later you might enjoy more. Just don't come for the weather! Personally I think the English or Welsh lanes are one of the glories, you see thatched cottages, village greens, ancient churches, lovely wild flowers, but it's not exactly speedy travelling. And you find real surprises that aren't in the guide book.

There's a lot more to the UK than London so it's lovely to hear about where you're aiming for. Keep us in the picture. And have a great time!

I am from north wales and would recommend conwy and caernarfon for castles (also check out Black Boy pub in the narrow streets near caernarfon castle). As previously mentioned, snowdonia is beautiful - even if you hate/have no time for walking, a drive along llanberis pass is stunning (stop in at pen y gwryd pub for a pint!) or you can get the train up snowdon... Also llandudno worth a visit for pier, cable cars and victoriana (bit obsessed with pubs, sorry, but have to mention king's head by the tram station and osbourne house by the pier for food/drink!). Enjoy - everywhere you mention are lovely places, wales bias as it is most familiar to me :) iechyd da (cheeres)

The Lakes are a MUST!! So many places to see, and gorgeous quaint towns. Perfect for walking, eating, drinking, relaxing... We normally go ever year in Autumn to see the orange leaves but the Lakes are gorgeous all year round :-)
You did say Northern Uk... although, that would mean the very top of Scotland. If Northern England is your goal then the Lakes for sure and don't miss out the east coast; Lindesfarm is another MUST!
If you are planning to head to the very North of the UK then you wont be disappointed. Scotland is out of this world, don't miss it out! Edinburgh first, then head north west towards fort william (take the route through Stirling and Calander... not the A9!)to see the most spectacular scenery. Skye another must!
You really will need about a month, 2 weeks for scotland alone!!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but as I'm heading to the Lake District for the first time on Friday I wondered if Jojo might have any suggestions for nice places to visit? We're staying nearish to Windermere, at a site on the Troutbeck river. Hoping to do quite a lot of fishing on the lakes, but I'd also love to visit some historical sites and could use a bit of local knowledge!

Sorry Moogie, ive just seen your post bit late I know! Besides all the lakes there is Beatrix Potter house to visit that's really lovely and Dove Cottage in Grasmere which is dedicated to Wordsworth. There are so many things to do, but no doubt you will have been picking up info as you get here. I will apologise in advance for the weather, but usually by 6pm the sun is shinning!!!

Hi Izzy, you will too know about the area for you to add any info to do? Weather is a bit poor here at times, all the hills draw in all the clouds hence rain, rain and more rain, but when the sun is out and you get to go up the fells, its spectacular!!
