Hi

I ve just been out for the evening and it's something of a first for me not to hit on a couple of cans on my return home.

I do find socialising quite stresssful in its own way and it used to be quite pleasant to have a cold beer on my return. Not so any more of course.

I did watch every body in town getting boozed up and thought I was pretty glad it wasn't me.... what a waste of money and how do people afford it now.

It is the end of a 49 year habit for me. I do need to keep this weight coming off and I'm pretty happy I'm half way to giving a mostly unwanted habit the boot.

Fasted yesterday and fasting tomorrow.

Good for you David! Never could understand how people can consume so many beers at once. Try drinking Coke one after the other. Not so easy. I have noticed since starting 5 2 that I have been more mindful about what I consume. Eliminating all those carbs will really help you drop the weight. Can't see your location but judging from your spelling I'd guess England. I am from the states and of course people drink here but the pub thing is cultural there(correct me if I'm wrong). So it would be difficult to eliminate altogether don't you think?

Yes, I am English , living in the midlands.

Your last sentence is very interesting. Interesting that you fore see a difficulty of a social nature in not drinking alcohol.

i ve known many people to say"I don't drink" when offered. I'm hoping I can keep the momentum going and follow that route.

When I was 20 I would d rink 2/3 pints and not think any think of it. Days s gone by I suspect....choices in life again..

Good choice! Just think of all those carbs you will never have to worry about again. I myself have eliminated sugar. I have found that it doesn't bother me at all. Although, a rare treat is okay in my mind.

i hit on packet or two of salted peanuts last break (dread to think what they did). So I guess I can't talk.

A really interesting point generally. Society does seem so based on having a few drinks! I was really pleased yesterday when we had a bottle of wine in the evening and I tried some, and then said "No". Not because of 5:2, but because I really didn't like that particular wine. Watched husband and son who honestly didn't seem to be enjoying it much either, but still had it!
Friends of mine always say "No". But I think it's going to be harder to have a few drinks now and then, than just to plain say "No", implying you have a health problem, whatever. Got weddings etc through this summer, family staying and so on. Maybe I need to lay in lots of low cal. alternatives! Trouble is, when you've had one or two drinks it's harder to resist!

I don't drink very much and I always offer to drive as then I have a reason not to drink. I must say on the odd occasion that I do have a drink I really enjoy it much more. I stopped drinking a lot about 10 years ago after spending a summer drinking far too much and feeling very hungover and sick. I know several people who do drink a lot and it seems to have a marked effect on their memory.
