140lbs has posted today about being able to drink Snowballs again, after a long time not being able to drink because of the meds she was on - especially significant for her as Snowballs were her first drink, back in the day, and listening to the Beatles. So a defining moment for her. :victory:

This reminded me of my most memorable drink - also after I had not been able to drink through being on medication for months and months - a proper Margarita, with salt round the rim of the glass, lime, and iced water on the side in a silver jug, in the courtyard at the San Angel Inn in Mexico City. This was before an equally memorable meal in the restaurant (my sister was living in Mexico and it was the millennium)

What about the rest of you - what is your most memorable drink?? I'm sure we will get some interesting answers to this one ...
Silverdarling, what fun this thread will be!
I am nowhere near as well travelled as you, but a drink very much in vogue now is Jagermeister. I have a bottle on the cabinet, to remind me of the blissful days of being a 19 year old army bride in Germany, many miles from home. Still having as much fun today, but back in England.
Not so much well travelled, maybe well drunkled    !!

And I think you do tend to look back on these things, especially as you get older!

My number 2 would be - campari drunk in the campo in Siena (somehow a campari is 'cool' if you drink it in Italy, lol!)

Number 3 - many many years ago - a kir royale, drunk in the small hours in a brasserie on Boulevard de Clichy in Paris
It's true that the drink really defines the place and the memory of it. Here are mine:

1. A southern comfort and lemonade, drunk in the corridor of my uni hall of residence, followed by several more! Bad hangover afterwards. First time I had tried SC, it was a Rocky Horror themed party.

2. A brandy sour, in Polis, Cyprus. Sunset, fun, new husband. Lovely.

I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's tales.
My most memorable drink would have to be a mango daiquiri (or two) on the beach at sunset, on Boracay island in the Philippines after I'd just moved there.

Fun idea for a thread Silverdarling!
A 1 finger shot of whiskey that my Grandpa poured (into a water glass) and shared with me (I had NEVER seen him drink before, lol) on the occasion of my 21st birthday. It was the one and only drink we ever had together as he passed away that winter.

Another memorable drink were the shirley temples I sucked down like water when my sister took her wedding party to a restaurant, I was 10 and had never been in such place (large family so never been anywhere so nice as this), she still remembers me exclaiming loudly "It's really DARK in here". I think she was glad that it was dark so nobody could see her blush. lol
I have two:

1. Last summer for my 50th birthday my husband and I spent the weekend in London and met up with our daughters for dinner one night. We spent a small fortune on champagne and cocktails with them in a bar before the meal. It was such extravagant fun that I shall never forget it.

2. In 2001 when our daughters were young we were fortunate to be able to spend a month on holiday in Australia which was fantastic. One day we had lunch at Doyles on the beach at Watson's Bay and had barramundi and chips and two bottles of wine. The meal and wine were not anything particularly special but the location on the deck with views of Sydney Harbour made it a truly memorable occasion.

What a fun topic to think about!
My most memorable drinks are gin and tonics made by my dad in North Wales. They live opposite Portmeirion and in the summer we sit in the garden and look across the estuary; they taste wonderful, the scenery is stunning and I am visiting my family :)
Wow - these responses are wonderful - thanks everyone for sharing

Betsysgr8 - would love to know what a 'shirley temple' is - lol!
My most memorable drink would be that first delicious MaiTai outside on the terrace overlooking the beach at sunset time in Maui, Hawaii - lived there for 4 years in paradise!! :drink: :island:

P.S. A Shirley Temple is a sweet, non-alcoholic drink they serve to kids with lots of marachino cherries!!!!
Late sixties, on a farm near Avignon in France, doing the vendange I stayed in a little room on the farm and we got a jug of wine every evening from the farmer. memories!!
A bottle of Dom Perignon hubby bought to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. It was just the two of us eating that night, we didn't have the kids with us, hubby was able to drink as our eldest was picking us up when we had finished.

The second was a HUGE milkshake, made in a giant brandy glass with sauce poured down the inside walls of the glass and bits of the icecream used still swirling around. Sat on a balcony in Spain watching the sun go down, sharing sips of each others drinks with the kids and hubby.
A big drinking event was the week before our 30th wedding Anniversary. ( 46th on the horizon).
We had planned a day at home, just chilling out, and as early as 11:30 am, on a very hot August Sunday, opened a bottle of Southern Comfort. Well....... one followed another, and we started looking around all the bits and pieces we had accumulated over the years. Good stuff and tat, hand me downs and expensive buys, silly ornaments and thoughtful presents, the house was cluttered with things. We went from room to room, recalling the stories of each item's origin, pouring just another little one, until, Blimey!!! the bottle was drained, and we were sozzled. Weeping with happiness in each others arms, recalling the good and the not so good times, and bang bang, there was a knock on the door! No 1 offspring!!! OMG. Never seen us in that state before. And never touched Southern Comfort since, but that was a glorious day!
Ooohhhh, piña colada cocktails on a moonlit beach on Koh Samui...............bliss.
Or discovering Bundy and coke as a young 18yr old when visiting family in Oz......and the hangover......eerrrggghhhh.
Or chilled Limoncello in Italy.....mmmm sitting on the balcony with friends chilling.....
Or pimms at Wimbledon............I could go on and on and on..........

Oh dear sound like a bit if a lush!;)
A relaxing gin and tonic, in the colonial style Victoria Hotel in Bangalore, 20 years ago when I was a nurse in a small town nearby and having an evening off. First time I had tried gin and I loved it, felt sophisticated!
Or
A very large Tia Maria and coke in Tenerife aged 19. Never ever again, can't even think about it
Or
Southern comfort, grenadine and lemonade, my first underage drink in a pub. Didn't have a clue what to drink so I copied an older friend.
