Bio Oil for stretch marks
18 Jul 2013, 15:31
Hi All

I seem to have lost weight from my upper arms which I'm delighted about, but I noticed that I've got some cracking stretch marks there. Not at all attractive in this weather

So I've been slapping on the Palmer's cocoa butter firming butter. However I've heard/read that Bio Oil is supposed to make a huge difference. Anyone got experience of this? Or some other magic potion?

Cheers
Alf

Yes I def recommend Bio Oil, can be a bit pricey so look out for offers but worth it. I know you can get cheaper versions but I've not tried them. Used Bio Oil after an operation on a friends recommendation. Hope you find it works well for you too!

After reading these posts I was checking prices for bio oil online and came across this, 'Bio Oil Revealed':

I soon changed my mind, this is worth watching and gives some alternatives.

Hi there I have used Bio Oil on my daughter, religiously for a year, due to a v bad bout of chicken pox. Large indentations on her face and raised ones on her chest and back(hypertrophic) and not a bit of difference. Dermatologist said don't bother. I used it with trepidation, I have v sensitive skin & eczema , well made me itch!
So it didn't work for us.
Cocoa butter is good for keeping the skin supple and smells nice.
I'm afraid it's all down to genetics!

Thank you coffeetime for the YouTube link. I am going to try making my own concoction with Jojoba, Almond & Rosehip oil as suggested in the YouTube clip to treat my stretch marks & also as a general body moisturiser. I had not heard of Rosehip oil before so I am looking forward to getting it. I will report if it works but I guess some moisturising is better than none at all & I only use body lotion at the moment.

I'm not sure if it's scaremongering as Vaseline is a mineral oil (petroleum jelly). I've been using that for most of my life and as far as I know it's done me no harm.

Haven't been able to watch the video but do I assume she is saying it contains mineral oil? If so I don't believe it does. Well, not unless its changed since I gave up aromatherapy. It used to be predominantly rosehip with some sunflower and one or two other oils that are known to be good for skin renewal.

Rosehip is excellent for skin renewal but its fearsomely expensive to get one that isn't in some way adultered. Avoid any that are super-cheap as they could well contain mineral oils. In general mineral oils have large molecules which wont absorb into the skin. Ok for a cheap massage where you only want slip but no good as a carrier where you want absorption.

Several reputable companies are doing a similar body oil now at a better price. Palmers have one that seems good but I don't care for the smell. Nivea are doing one but I haven't tried theirs yet. At the mo I'm using one from Aldi! My skin is very dry and I use it on wet skin after showering. It smells pleasent and leaves my skin soft but not sticky. The Palmers could be a bit gloopy. It seemed cheap when I got it so I was wary but actually I think they get away with it as its a smaller bottle.

Thanks for all the replies. I think at the moment I'll stick with the Palmers until it's finished then decide which way to go. I know someone at work who is big on the essential oil thing so I'll ask her for advice as well. She might even make me up some gorgeous potion.

I guess what I can also do is start trying to tone up the bingo wings with exercise.

Cheers
