TV crazy editing....etc
24 Nov 2013, 19:11
Hi

Sorry for my absence. Computer glitch mainly.

Just to say the is a "discussion" on the BBC "message boards" re BBC filming and (so called) editing techniques. This has been hot topic for me for years as I do get sick of images flicking in front of my eyes, far too close photography for so called "edginess" etc etc.

A few days ago I posted and was delighted to see a lot of people agree with me (and a few seemingly don't); in fact a thread had already been started and I my attention was politely drawn to it.

Numbers we want so that the BBC film crews are aware.... if you feel the same way please add your vote.

Thanks very much,

David

Hi David, I've been thinking about you and wondering how you are.

Being a Yank I don't have much to say about the BBC's editing, etc., but I do object to the current fad in TV and movies for poorly-lighted scenes. Sometimes you can hardly see anything that's happening! In period pieces, you can't see the details of sets, props and costumes.

Welcome back.

Thankyou.

My mum not bing well has been a worry (quite a bit better now) and I'm trying to get ahead with the ECDL computing (that's European Computer Driving licence) course whilst I have some time.

(Maybe American TV is better :-).)

Thanks again for your kind words.

I'm so glad it's not just me! I thought it was my age :like:

Not just the BBC. We had to stop watching Whitechapel on ITV because of the constant 'flicking'. I don't know how anyone with epilepsy could have watched it, it drove us mad! :dazed:
Hope you're Mum's ok and good luck with your course! :clover:

I do keep up to date with the BBC message board POINTS OF VIEW.

It would help if you were to copy/paste a clickable link to the discussion in question.

I has got a little heated in places. Would suggest you ignore all that.

If you are unsure I would just use the origional opening post , hit "reply" and make your case.

Thankyou very much.

I strongly suspect that's what they are hoping will happen.

David, I doubt if American TV is any better. We stopped subscribing almost 4 years ago. We subscribe to netflix and often watch public broadcasting and news events on the laptop. We read NY Times and other news online and listen to National Public Radio to keep informed. The public library is right next door to feed the reading addiction, too. TV just doesn't seem necessary to us any more.

I'm glad to hear that your mum is doing better.

Best wishes.

Karen, I'm a lot older than you, so I'm glad to know that younger people think the lighting is too low.

David, I suppose some producers don't really want to let the viewers get a good look, but sometimes I read about how much trouble they go to to get the "look" just right--makes me scratch my head a little.

They seem to be some how vying with each for something ever more sensational and "edgy", as they call it. I'm left wondering what's going to flick or flash in front of my eyes next. I would have thought their job is to show us things..... as you say so that we can get a good look, which I would have thought is a not unreasonable desire.

I hate it when they start the dialogue for the next scene well before the visual changeover, why do they do that? Hope your mum improves soon and good luck
