Do you cook the carrots top ?
17 Feb 2014, 15:42
I bought a bunch of carrots today, with the leaves and everything. We called them "fanes" here but, if my dictionary is right, they are called simply "top" in English. So, I have these leaves and I know some people cook them, I even found a recipe for a soup that I'll try later this week but I was wondering what do you do with them ? Do you use them or throw them away ?

Just curious
 Hi @Manderley I always cut mine off never thought about it before so I'll watch for other suggestions.
Never cooked them but suppose you could shred them and use them as a garnish or flavouring like a herb?
They are supposed to taste a bit like rocket. I found 2 interesting recipes so far, one for a soup and the other one to use in a savory cake. I will translate the both of them tonight
I feed them to my bunny - she loves them! :bunny:

Would that be solid fuel or liquid?

It's how my dictionary spells it, not my fault. I was talking about the salad, by the way

Love it. I looked it up and the US term for rocket (the vegetable) is Arugula. I like rocket much better.

:-)
 my mind always think 'addingfuel' at your name @ADFnFuel so imagine my mirth when @Manderley was asking about rocket fuel ... Sorry but was funny t me
I guess it depends, some people call it "rocket" and other "arugula".

I finally decided to use them as I would use thyme or parsley so I freeze them for now like I freeze fresh basil and mint leaves. I also used them yesterday and they really have a peppery taste
Carrot tops are great chopped into a frittata. Bit of cheese, maybe some cooked cubed spuds & beaten eggs. Season/add herbs/whatever other greens you have around as you will.

Just use them as green veg here - so they get chucked into soups/salads/stir fries here.
