Election's over, turn to the kitchen and the garden and get on with it. Today it's dealing with a big basket of ripe tomatoes:

Hey @Sallyo, well done on making the passata. Are the tomatoes you used home grown or did you do to the markets? How many bottles did you make? What a productive day!

They were all my own tomatoes, Julianna. I have a good crop this year. I made about 8 jars, Mayonnaise jars, if you know what I mean, so reasonably big jars. Another year I made it in Fowlers' jars but they were too big and it was difficult to use up the passata once I had opened a jar before it went mouldy. Other years I have frozen tomatoes which is a good method. I froze them in 400 gm lots so just threw in a bag when a recipe asked for a 400gm tin of tomatoes. This was an easy recipe to follow. I will probably be able to make another batch. We have no room in the freezers at the moment so this is a good solution. I haven't used the water bath method of preserving before, although I've read about it. It's easy. How's your tomato crop this year?
