If you're looking for an easier way to count calories, read on...
I recently got the chance to try out the SITU smart kitchen scales and I must say I love them!
The scales themselves are neat looking, no bigger than a regular kitchen scale and in a lovely white finish (which matches my kitchen beautifully). But they don't just look smart, they are smart! Through the power of Bluetooth they connect to your iPad (and soon Android tablets too) to make calorie counting an absolute doddle. Put food on the scale, use the intuitive and highly graphical app to select the food and tap to add it to your virtual plate. It's quick and fuss-free.
The SITU app keeps track of not only the calories but every bit of nutritional information for what you are are preparing. You can even set targets for each nutrient, such as a limit on your carb intake or goals for vitamins and minerals. With all the buzz in the press lately about sugar, SITU couldn't have come at a better time as they make it easy to monitor your intake.
The scales appeal to me not only as a 5:2er but also as someone who in the last 18 months has had to become more aware of certain vitamins. When I was on Warfarin these would have made life so much easier, being able to accurately track my Vitamin K intake - and now I can use them to keep track of my B vitamins to help lower my homocysteine levels. Brilliant!
So, if you're fed up of the fiddly apps for manually entering your calorie intake, if you need a new pair of kitchen scales or if you have reason to monitor other aspects of your diet these could be right up your street.

In a nutshell, I think the scales are a fantastic piece of kit! If I'd known about them when they were crowdfunding via Kickstarter I would have jumped at the chance to back them.
