One 5:2er, one vote!

Some very different and wide ranging choices here! I decided to go for 10 books in the end, rather than have a shorter list, to give you more choice. Most are picked from those nominated over the past couple of weeks, and a couple mentioned on the previous book thread.

You can vote until Saturday 31st August, and the book with the most votes will be our October read. If you do change your mind after voting, you can go back and change your vote, up to the closing date.

If you want a bit more info on each book, have a look on Amazon or on the original thread

Should cover all tastes I hope, and provide food for thought!
Some darned fine choices.
i know which I *ought* to read and know which I want to read....
OK, voted!
Well done Penny! First vote past the post! :victory: :victory: :victory:
Just bumping this up to catch all the UK Sunday morning loungers and loafers!
Have voted.
Difficult choice though as might be fun if one had time to read them all! :geek:
thanks for organising this Silverdarling. Certainly an interesting list.

I enjoy finding new authors to try and there are a few here that are new to me. I have voted but will download all of those that appeal to me onto my kindle for reading on holiday in September
Thanks Judio and windsinger - hadn't thought of just the voting list being used as a source of what to read, but I suppose it's a no-brainer really!

Win-win all round! :victory: :like: :clover:
Can we nominate the same book in future if it has not been selected this time as there are more than one on the list I'd quite like to read?

Yes definitely Ballerina! :like: :victory:
Can't wait to see which book wins out - I have cast my vote for Anne Tyler, which is a bit of a copout really, as I have read all her books and she could make a shopping list interesting! I read her first book nearly 30 years when living in upstate N.Y. and been a fan ever since. However, it will be interesting to see if any of the books I don't fancy get nominated as that will shove me out of my comfort zone which might be a good thing! I think it's fairly easy to decide which genre of books you like and then stick with that when sometimes it's good to be challenged, and who knows, discover a whole new world of ideas...had a bit of a reading disaster on my recent holiday, my kindle went AWOL on my first day (thankfully, handed in to hotel reception in time for my leaving!) and I was forced to read the dog eared leftovers of previous holiday makers. A bloodthirsty lot by the books on offer btw as most of them involved crazed serial killers and various brilliant detectives. I read my first ever Rebus mystery and NEVER AGAIN, even under duress - wooden, stilted and no sense of dialogue. Why is he so popular? maybe it's because he's from Edinburgh (I'm Glasgow) but the man's got nae "patter". Ended up reading Ruth Rendell's Inspector Wexford for most of the hols. and a hilarious (unintentionally!) book of Italian etiquette!
My copy of Lionel Shriver's Big Brother has been ordered from my WONDERFUL local library so hoping I will get my mitts on it soon!
All you book lovers, have you cast your vote yet - it's wide open at the moment and lots more votes are needed!!
Dhana - haha! Just had visions of you kindle-less with a Rebus, muttering to yourself on the beach in the 40degree heat!!

I must confess, I am a fan of Rebus (but then I'm not from Glasgow  )

Still you never know - you just might have discovered something you liked from among the 'dog-eared leftovers'  Looking forward to hearing what you think of BB once you get your hands on a copy. And welcome back, your colourful posts have been much missed! :victory: :like:
I am also looking forward to the chosen 'one' but I have already ordered my nomination from Amazon, through this site, and I agree with you Dhana, that this a wonderful way to expand your reading choices beyond your own tried and tested formulae.

This forum just gets better and better, or am I just a sad auld biddie?

Bump - just a quick reminder to cast your vote for October's read. Autumn mists, falling leaves, curled up on the sofa in front of the fire, a nice cuppa in one hand and a BOOK in the other...I know with this late Indian summer it hardly seems possible, but it's on its way. Apologies to all far flung members who don't get our seasonal weather, but I know you read books too, in the sunshine or rain! Take your reading specs and make your choice of the wonderful books at the beginning of this thread. :geek: :geek: :geek:
Thanks for bumping it up. I was on holiday and missed it. I've just voted and now I want to read most of them!
I have no idea which one to vote for so am going to wimp out and let others pick.
I've read the first pick Big Brother and I'm really looking forward to the next book
Thanks everyone for doing a book club, what a brilliant idea.
