I really enjoyed this one. Was she real or imagined? Not sure but I'm glad it had a happy ending as I'm a sucker for happy endings.
I really enjoyed this one too. I thought it might be too sad but it wasn't. I read it as soon as it was chosen and at the time had plenty to say about it but have forgotten now what I was going to say. Sorry. Anyway, I really liked it and found myself thinking about it in between reading sessions and sneaking a few pages whenever I got a chance. Thank you to whoever it was that nominated this one.
Yes I enjoyed this one. All her books are slightly odd or should I say different but I usually enjoy them. I think I prefered 'Digging to America' . I've no idea how much was real and how much imagined but she made a much better job of the of the plot than Lionel Shriver... and yes I like happy endings too.
I think I've another of her books on my kindle waiting to be read.

Whoopee off to a flying start. Have not finished this one yet, so might have to desist from reading the thread until I've finished but, pleased that the first to post have all enjoyed it - (that's three more than the Shriver, )
And @Minsmum - beaks open, and waiting for your next delicious production
Dusting down me trolley and will be stocking it up with delicious goodies x
I enjoyed it too Thank you to the person who suggested it, and also to the people who run the Book Club as I am not good at choosing things that are not my 'usual'. I thought the book was very gentle and made me think about whether people who have died ever do appear to family and friends they have left behind, or whether we just want them to, so imagine them? (And no, I haven't been visited...yet!)
I appear to have totally missed book club. Is there still time for me to get this one, or should I wait for the next? x
May I join the club?
Hi the 2 karens - please join in, the more the merrier ... What I do is open the thread for the month's chosen book at the beginning of the month, and people can post their views whenever they like - anytime over the next 4 weeks. So far, we've just had one book, Big Brother by Lionel Shriver, that wasn't too popular. The book club threads are stickied at the top of the non-diet forum if you want to see what has been going on over the last couple of months ...
The book club Gang of Three is me, dhana and Minsmum - Minsmum is in charge of vittals - and will be along with her tea trolley with this month's baking delight very shortly ... as you have probably already guessed, cake has already found it's place on this particular thread

Thank you. I shall certainly not want to miss the cake trolley.....
Hi Booklovers,
I bought this book as soon as it had been voted in. I enjoyed it and found myself wanting Dorothy to stay around, yet wanting life to move on, which I guess is what bereavement is all about. This is an author I'd heard of but never read, so thanks for the suggestion.
Now, where's that trolley? Any chocolate eclairs on offer?

Unlike other posters I didn't enjoy this book although I did read all of it as I wanted to know how it ended. I didn't warm to the characters and thought the storyline was too strange. I found it difficult to understand why Aaron and Dorothy were together. It reminded me at times of A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving which is also an odd story but one that I enjoyed. However it is good to read something that I would not have chosen personally. Other book club members liked it and it gets very good reviews on Amazon so I seem to be the odd one out!
Have now caught up with the threads. Silverdarling if you decide to stick with November's read, I will be ahead as I read it Good call! When are you open for suggestions again? Meantime, have downloaded this one this morning.
