Just looking through tonight's tv listings and noticed that at 8 pm on Channel 4 UK there is a Dispatches programme on The Truth about Low Fat Food. Might be worth watching.

Bumping this. It's on now. Cheers Buddy. Hope you're ok. Been a bit busy x
Yes, well, rather simplistic innit! Hope some sort of positive message manages to wriggle through all this and out to the watching population ...
Don't think any of us will be surprised by all of that, interesting nevertheless, thanks Callyanny for the alert,

Nothing ground breaking, was there?
Made me realise that I'm thinking in the right direction these days. Can't believe that the labels can be so far out though. It's all in the wording. I remember using such terminology. Consistent with, typically and appears to be.
One great thing which has come out of it is my hubs is no longer having muller low fat yoghurts. Even though I've been telling him for months that they're no good!!
Let's hope many more folk see the light after watching it.

What is such a great shame about this programme is that it perpetuates the myth that eating low fat is the way to go. Of course it is bad that the labels are inaccurate but this constant focussing on how to eat low fat is not helping the obesity crisis!
I didn't see all the programme though so perhaps they mentioned this, but even so the focus was on fat content when we should be worrying about sugar and refined carb content.

In it's defence caro, it did go into high sugar content of low fat products in great depth. Comparing spoonfuls of sugar in low fat versus regular products. Plus it did touch on cutting out sugar full stop, as we don't need it.
It was disappointing that the tests they performed on the public showed that everyone thought that often seemingly low fat products would be better for them. More interesting was the trial where people who were given free low fat chocolate (smarties) versus people who were given regular fat chocolate took much more. Due to confusion about how many cals in seemingly low or lighter foods and less guilt attached to consuming them. It did however highlight that the percentage fat content is more important than the label of "light and "low fat.
