Decluttering my wardrobe
18 May 2014, 10:21
I am trying on everything in my wardrobe today and getting rid of everything that isn't lovely. I am a confirmed hoarder and my house is full of c£@9 - well, you never know do you? we have a jumble sale coming up soon for our local guiding unit so I have good reason to have a clear out.

My keep pile is bigger than my jumble pile at the moment! Please can anyone give me any advice or even convince me that it's ok to get rid of things? See, I am in between 2 generations - make do and mend and the new consumer fed one and I tend towards both. I buy new stuff and keep the old, just in case. Thanks x

I've just done the same thing. Honesty is the best policy...are you really going to wear it again, does it still look good on your new slim lined body. If not it's time to go. I was looking forward to trying on a couple of things that I knew were a bit tight before however they ended up looking like tents - they went to the charity shop. Have fun.

Just get rid WD! You can feel virtuous donating your unwanted clothes to a charity shop or the jumble sale and give your wardrobe spme space! If the old stuff's now too big you're not going to grow back into them so be ruthless!

Hiya x understand how you feel pulled two ways..but like @wildmissussays, it has to go if it doesnt fit! Remember, you didnt lose weight in order to wear old illfitting clothes!
Also, bear in mind, charity shops and the buyers there will be glad to make use of your castoffs so everyone wins! And i believe in making space for new fresher and better things to come in..nature abhors a vacuum ! :like:

Are you sure everything is still lovely? Have you tried it all on? You only need one or two grubby outfits for things like gardening and painting.

Good luck!

The trouble is, a lot of it is sentimental. I know.......

Because I didn't have a lot of weight to lose I still have all the things that have been too tight. They fit a treat now. I only have a few things that are too big. I am currently wearing a pair of really old M&S denim shorts and a white crew neck t shirt that looked horrible for a long time. I have grown back into them now and I look great :victory: most of what is going is because I don't like it any more or it holds no sentimental value. Just off to shave my legs now as they don't look so great with my shorts. The family have just shamed me. Well, we were only in the garden but I don't want to scare anyone when I go out later

If I have trouble getting rid of something I tell myself that it's making way for something a lot better. It's good to give things to charity @Wendy Darling and sometimes letting go really helps you feel doubly great too! :victory:

Get rid @Wendy Darling That was your "interim" wardrobe
Also there are many people in greater need than you for your beautiful cast-offs, sentimentality is just that
a word and
More importantly You Are Worth It. rid + replace

@Wendy Darling it is good to keep movement in your wardrobe, out with the old in with the new. If it is not truly lovely, fits well and makes you look great let it go. Someone else will treasure it and you aren't going back to that old size now are you?

Have now OP shopped for about 3 years and there are enough eventual great finds, only pick quality. I think is great environmentally to declutter and recycle to charity

If something has sentimental value, if you have a gut feeling you aren't finished with the item yet or if it is beautiful and looks good on you keep it.

I always enjoy having a good chuck out each season. It a fun thing to do. Don't forget to do your shoes too. Save some old comfy clothes which are like a second skin as well.

Think of it as shedding a cocoon revealing your butterfly underneath.

This is my project, but it's not just clothing. New things can't come in if old things don't go out. It's like a spiritual law. :geek: It's like a diet for your home. I'm also way too sentimental.

Not like me at all when twenty words can say the same as two. I was in a hurry and knew I'd forget if I didn't do it right there and then.
