Desert Dry Skin!
08 Aug 2013, 12:55
Waaaagh my poor face is so dry today!

I drink tonnes of water, moisturize daily, wear SPF 30 and am pretty much obsessive about my skin. It's generally very good and I don't have any major wrinkles or spots, but I do suffer bouts of rosaeca on my cheeks in particular and get icky little bumps on my chin.

Does any one have any hints or tips for me to help with the dryness? Any home remedies or lotions and potions?

I'd really appreciate it!

How do you clean your skin? For your face, you can just use oils to clean and remove make-up. Coconut oil is good for drier skin, but olive or jojoba or almond oils will work as well. At the end of the day, massage it in for a few minutes and wipe it off with a soft warm wet cloth. You can also simply splash cool water on your face in the morning rather than clean it again.

I'm a coconut oil fan for most of my body, I rub it in everywhere and give an extra massage to the bits that are showing signs of sagginess due to the fat not being there to bulk it out. My feet do need the extra help of some heavy duty moisturiser from the doctors though. It could be something to do with not wearing shoes unless I'm in public. I even walk to the neighbors in bare feet.

Coconut oil it is!

Thanks for the replies! I'm definitely going to give that a go! I usually cleanse with Simple wipes and then plenty of cold water followed by Simple lotion or Cocoa Butter.Pure Shea Butter once a week also. :like:

There is a product called cetaphil which is absolutely wonderful as an all over body moisturiser. I keep forgetting to regularly use the coconut oil but I will persist

Are you using any topical medications for the rosacea? I have rosacea also and find some of the prescribed gels, creams, etc. irritating and drying. If so, maybe the dermatologist could prescribe something different.

Ooh yes, their collagen body butter is scrumptious! The propolis gel is lovely too, for when your skin isn't behaving well. I actually mix a blob with my moisturiser each day. Their aloe vera gel is so cooling. The great thing about SBC gels is that you can mix n match them according to your needs. QVC do great deals, or check their own website, they don't charge for P & P. I like their collagen cleanser and moisturiser, and always use Liz Earle's instant boost skin tonic - bliss in the hot weather! One of the best skin products ever!

I never used to obsess about my skin, but medication has an adverse effect, so I try and keep on top of it now. I'm 56, but only look.......maybe 55

I don't know if I'm doing this right but here goes.
Good on you using the SBC range I'm waiting for my collagen gel to come and my daughter is ordering me the body firming gel from amazon as it is the same price as most on qvc so half the actual website price. Alison on qvc advised me to use these 2items together to help with my saggy skin as I'm losing weight(3st 1lb so far)

Simple isn't moisturizing enough for me.

Also, I find the less I do to my skin, the better it looks.

So I use Simple face wash in the shower. Then I use a good, heavy moisturizer. Right now I'm using one by Avene that I picked up in a pharmacy in Paris, but I also like the Boots No7 creams (seems I never buy the same one twice, but they're all good). For me, the lotion moisturizers just don't do enough. I really need a cream.

You tend to need the thicker, heavier lotions and moisturising creams as you get older. Nivea used to be the classic for the 'older ladies' when i was a youngster.

I have really sensitive skin and have to use a clinique mascara that comes off with warm water. I think I am allergic to the parabems in eye makeup as my eyes get puffy with anything else.

I used to use simple products on my face, then went on to clinique face stuff but found this too expensive. I now use the botanics range sold in boots. They have a serum that is light and soaks into skin straight away without leaving you greasy. They also have a "calming" range and moisturiser with spf in it. and I can use their makeup wipes on my eyes! So would recommend for sensitive skin and may be ok to use and not aggravate your rosacea. Shelley x
