how to pronounce Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch with pictures of the village and area. It really is that nice around there, I used to live 4 miles from it. I had to learn how to say it self defense. At least its not a spitting language, it does strangle your tonsils though.

Thank you, @Julieathome, that was great!! Between that and learning Ilkla Moor baht 'at I have really received a proper British education. Well, I haven't actually learned either, I suppose.

Now I have to find a suitably offbeat American item to pass on. I'll work on that. Any ideas, fellow Americans?

Not sure but go south @wendyjane! That is always good for translating .. then of course there is always the northern border with Canada with the scandavian words?

Oh, and btw, arvo is afternoon way down south in the southern hemishere. ;)

Wendy, would you mind making a general location visible for you? You don't have to give too many details .. don't really need your exact address or anything, lol. User control panel, profile then scroll down a bit to location ;) thank you!

Maybe either Honey Boo Boo or Duck Dynasty? I think they speak the same language as me. But, I have to read the subtitles and interpret a lot. Then, it only gets worse from there and you may find yourself wishing you could unsee what you saw and unhear what you heard. It's like a train wreck. You better redneck-anize!!

Oh yes Honey boo boo and duck dynasty but do we really want to claim them? Lol, I grew up not far from the 'valley' girl speech of the 80's, then there is the slang from all the younger generation that is difficult to understand the older you get or more removed from teenagers you get. :)

Ha! Yeah, I was like, totally fluent in Valley Girl back in junior high. Like, totally.

We may not want to claim those looneys...but I think that ship has sailed  .

Really laughing now --- because I'm not familiar with either of these things! So you can see where I am wrt popular culture. In fact, I tried to raise my kids in that spirit, and was quite pleased about 15 years back when I discovered that my preteen daughter didn't know who Britney Spears was!

Is it bad that I always call her Brocolli spears?
Re: Fun learning British

LOL. They are reality TV series on TLC and A&E. Pieces of work. The whole lot of them. I will say no more and let you decide whether to google them but remember what I said about not being able to unsee or unhear it. ;)

Thanks for the warning, @43tweaker. That explains it - ever since the very same daughter who was oblivious to Broccoli Spears  grew up, I haven't seen any TLC shows. Later in her teen years, she used to watch the conjoined twins or the Duggars or some other such nonsense after school to "rot her brain" (her words).
