Hi. It's tomorrow, but not many people working here today. Storms again on the east coast. Hope everyone is ok if you are travelling.

I think our plans will go ok--sort of after the storm. Tomorrow (Thanksgiving Thursday) we'll meet our local kids in the pm at a hotel ballroom for their Thanksgiving buffet dinner--chance of snow showers only predicted.

Friday am we start driving 6.5 hours to eastern massachusetts to share the rest of the holiday weekend with the other half of our family--very little snow predicted along the way--so we should be ok.

Right now snow has been falling for about three hours and will probably not stop til tomorrow morning.

Thanks, Azure and Karen, for the good wishes. Hope we all stay safe this winter. :clover: :clover:

Apologies for my senior moment on what day I'm currently living in !!
Be safe in the snow and the sun wherever you are.
(The Turkey crockpot was ok but I don't think I'll rush to make it again, works better with chicken thighs.)

As an American living abroad for the last 13 years, it's been awhile since I celebrated Thanksgiving. Tbh I don't really like the food, except cranberry sauce. Today, I took part in another Thankdgiving tradition: a turkey trot. We did a 6k run before work this morning.

Happy Thanksgiving !
Dare I say, I don't know how you can manage 2 to 3 (if you do a big meal on New Year's day) huge meals in a month ?
I would love, however, to experience a real Thanksgiving one day, just because it seems so exotic to me and because I love love love cranberry sauce and pumpking pie

We spent our Thanksgiving sitting in the dark and cold with our electric power out for 48 hours thanks to a heavy rain falling on top of a very heavy snow. We managed to get an old, unused gas fireplace working, and that kept the house (and radiator pipes) from freezing.

Trees went down everywhere, pulling down the power lines. Our internet cable got pulled off our house, so that it was still attached but it was dipping down so that it was lying about a foot over the driveway. OH and my son got out the ladders and searchlight and tacked it back up to the side of the garage with a giant clip. My OH is the kind of man who buys a searchlight and a foot long special clip because "some time it might come in handy. This time it did. Had he not hauled it up, the snow plow would have run right into it and broke it and I wouldn't be sending this to you all.

The turkey spent Thanksgiving in an ice packed cooler in the garage. It's still there. Unfortunately, the children and their significant others who were supposed to eat it are not. So tomorrow I will be cooking up a 22 lb bird for myself and OH, who doesn't particularly like turkey. My son is going to be heading back home, a 12 hour drive.

The children ate a lot of the pies I'd made, and we had fun sitting by the fire side chatting in the flickering flames. It made me realize what life was like for most people through most of the past. It was dark by 4:30 PM and even with the flames and some lanterns, I couldn't really see anyone's clothing or even their faces very clearly. But everyone looked quite lovely. After all that dark, we were all ready for bed by 9PM.

We definitely had a Thanksgiving that we will all remember in years to come!

@Peebles my what an adventure! I guess your grandchildren will always remember the precious fireside experience with you and the family on Thanksgiving day. I would! Oh my, you'll be eating turkey for weeks -- 22lbs  it's taken me a whole year to lose that!

I hope everyone is safe this weekend.

@lizbean,

As it turned out, we got up very early this morning and put the turkey in the oven. It cooked up fast enough that my son was able to stay long enough to eat it. He's a very big man (height, build, and muscle, not fat) and a very hearty eater who hadn't had much to eat for the last three days. So the three of us polished off two huge, meaty servings each. Then my son prepared a big container of leftovers to take with him--remarking that refrigeration isn't going to be a problem (It's not going to get above freezing all day), and together we took care of at least 1/3 of the monster turkey.

Now all I have to worry about is his 12 hour drive through a region now predicted to be getting an ice storm. This is probably the last time I will attempt a family Thanksgiving. The weather is just too awful this time of year and my daughter is very likely going to be moving out of Massachusetts next year as she is transferring to another school to get her Ph.D..

I'm just remembering one of my favorite Thanksgiving things: my mom's turkey noodle soup. My sister makes really good turkey enchiladas.

I hope you and your family are all safely home and with power now, pebbles!
