Happy Thanksgivukkah!!
27 Nov 2013, 18:01
I know I'm a day early, but I'm assuming that many forum friends will not be spending much time on line tomorrow. It's a very special occasion given that Thanksgiving and Hanukkah overlap. I have had 3 calls with US friends today and they are already gearing up with family arriving etc etc.

So, I would like to be the first to wish you all peace and happiness on your day of celebrations tomorrow.

Do you know what is on the menu Betsy?

Menu at Mom's is somewhat traditional for thanksgiving with the exception of green bean cassarole and yams with marshmellow topping.

Ours will be Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, yams with pecan topping, cranberry relish, pomagranite salad, green salad (sister bringing), brussel sprouts (Betsy bringing, I think Mom doesn't really like brussel sprouts, lol), other sister and brothers not sure what they are providing, bread rolls, dessert will be pumpkin pie, apple crisp, and pecan pie.

There will be other goodies, cheeses, dips, veg and chips but above is the basics for our dinner. :) Its a lovely day and while I used to stuff myself, I don't anymore because with 5:2 I learned that I don't need it all right now, I can take some left-overs home with me for another day. ;)

Whooo hooo! Just heard there will be homemade pancakes with the homemade peach conserve my Mom and I made last summer for breakfast in the morning, just have to convince my BF to get up early for the hour + drive to mom's in the morning! Yummy!

 Taking a quick break from the preparations. My back and neck are starting to ache from all the standing, bending, whatever. Baked 4 kinds of cookies, two kinds of pies and an apple crisp/cobbler dish with a cinnamon roll crust--Pinterest inspired. Green bean casserole is in the fridge to be baked while watching the Macy's parade in the AM. I am still dipping some pretzels in white chocolate, orange (white) chocolate and chocolate peanut butter. Going to make some no bake cookies (my signature item.) They would probably kick me out if I didn't and they are quick and easy. Otherwise, mostly wrapping up now.

We are going to MIL's for dinner (lunchtime) and then to my Mom's side of the family @ her sister's in the evening which is why so many desserts; they are for two different celebrations.

Happy Turkey Day to all those celebrating and a Happy Hannukah, too!

Hey, 43tweaker, can I get your recipe for no-bake cookies? My sister was asking for one…

I am having a very non-traditional Thanksgiving this year at a steak and seafood teppenyaki place. MMMM

(the only thing I really like about traditional Thanksgiving is the cranberry sauce. and Grandma's apple pie.)

Yes happy celebrations to everyone. I am intrigued by the green bean casserole? What goes in it apart from the green beans? Is it a tomatoey thing?

Green bean casserole has cream of mushroom soup and these crispy breaded fried onions that come in a can. It is a somewhat newer American tradition, I think. http://www.campbellskitchen.com/recipes ... role-24099

This recipe is very similar to mine except mine calls for 3 tablespoons cocoa powder and 1/2 c peanut butter. I think the main trick is that it has to boil a while to set up right and every stove is a little different amount of time. (It is more like 3 minutes of a rolling boil on my stove)If you have ever made fudge or candy, you will know what it means...the soft ball stage. Otherwise, you will have a gooey mess and be eating them with a spoon. :)
