I didn't want to know
12 Sep 2014, 07:32
I donated my plasma today. I like the thought my plasma helps kids and adults who need it.

I normally prefer not to have my weight spoken aloud, I just dont wish to know really, and while this has worked mostly today she said are you still ---kgs I said yep, but silently freaked out.

I dont want to get into numbers, because it can be a slight obsession and I just dont want to go there anymore. So its clear that 5:2 worked better for me pre christmas and its been on the up post christmas.

I am not going to stress, but perhaps be more mindful for the sake of my girth and the related health that can be rather than for vanity.

I guess I will have to get over the weight number thing, I do wish to continue for the people that need plasma products.

《Hugs》 @Zamale, you sound a bit down. Im a bit focused (obsessed! ) with numbers myself as I'm a few pounds away from goal and have been for nearly 2 months. Really, I am fine as I am, but I just want to hit goal, for some bloody reason!

Nobal thing, donating blood and plasma. They wont take my blood anymore because I lived in the UK in the 90s. Something about CJD, although I was a strict veggie and even vegan for some of the time.

New dress.
Yes it's a number, nevertheless, we can't help it. Look at this pic of me and try and guess my weight, it's what we are made up of honestly. It's taken me a long time to see this.

You are doing fantastic. You will be at goal before you know it. Motivation will hit me soon I'm sure. Still doing 5:2 mon/thurs but over eating on feed days.

Feel for you @zamale.
I went for a vey long time not knowing the number despite hospital appointments- fortunately, most of the weighing was done on the chair type scales with the mechanism behind you (nice one!)
Agree with carieoates about 'guess my weight'. At work yesterday, working out loads, my weight came into question. Normally you would be told to mind your own business asking this. However, it does make a difference to safe working in this instance. Gaily said the number and watched faces fall as it is much more than would be expected, as I'm just wee. Think I maight be chuffed when I was told that it must be muscle!
Chin up! I'm sure you look great AND you are a glamourous granny AND you are doing a great thing donating.
We are defined by much more than the number on the scales.

You looking really fine in that dress @carieoates

I not good at guessing numbers, but you look great, lovely dress.

I have a bit of a belly, I can see that. My marone jeans have deceived me, I bought them when I was 8kg lighter and they still fit me comfortably now. I guess this is not diet related now, feel free to move me.

yeah, numbers are just that.I am watching 'bringing sexy back' on telly and those women and men look fab after their fat loss and the weight can still be in the 70's and even 80's kg range.

Today I had tiramasu slice, thick it was and creamy coffee, I felt sick and wanted to sleep after it.

I will not fixate on numbers and no I won't weigh, it was bad for me once.

Oh @zamale, how awful for you - I am sorry to hear the effect it has had on you. Over here, weight doesn't seem to come into it when you are donating blood - as in you don't have to discuss your weight before donating. I'm sure they must have some limits though on super-skinny people....but surely, they can see for themselves just by looking at someone. So I am very sorry that the rules are different where you are.

It is very sad to think that doing something altruistic resulted in emotional pain for you and I really understand how you feel. Try to see it for what it is though - not a personal attack on you, but just a nurse doing her job. I know the word "still" is what hurt you, but some days we are more robust than others and I really think that 9 times out of 10 it might not have upset you.

Am sending  (((((hugs))))) and asking you to cut yourself a generous slice of slack right now. Everyone has ups & downs....and you know you will come through it & out the other side. In the meantime, remember that we are all here for you whenever you need us xx

I hate it when people say my weight out loud or ask me too, the other day I was weighing myself and my 5 year old came in, looked at the number and gaily shouted it out, adding 'that's a big number, isn't it mummy?' - even though I was looking at it having it voiced made it worse.

Otherwise I'm like you @scubachick, not allowed to give blood in France because I lived in the UK even though I have never eaten meat in my life!

(((((Hugs)))))

It's my observation that you are very hard on yourself. Please read and re-read what hazelnut so eloquently wrote. You did a great thing; I'm a blood donor myself and know its a great feeling to know you are doing good. I'd donate plasma in a heartbeat but te nearest centre is too far away from me to be practical. Don't let your positive act be overshadowed by your negative inner voice. She can be VERY mean!

Oh yes, may I second Hazelnut as well? Very well put :-)

And Nicky - with your BMI, that number can't be very big, or even much higher than you want it to be. :-)

I was thinking that the number couldn't be that high-anything over 20 is a big number if you are 5-bet he tells you that you are really old as well!

Hi Z very well done on donating plasma.. :like: :like: :like: i used to do it but no longer allowed to since needing a blood transfusion myself. I miss it,coz giving blood and plasma is such a worthwhile thing to do. I ' m rhesus negative, which is always in demand.
in uk,weight is never mentioned,or never used to be anyways, tho it may be if someone looks too slim to donate safely.
I always get weighed in Superdrug and live in fear that suddenly my weight will boom out ( coz it always shouts out,"Stand straight and do not move!" Which is bad enough when youre in public as it draws unwanted attention to me,skulking on the scales! i often fear it will then shout out my weight in stones and pounds to all and sundry.
I too did well pre xmas, not so good post xmas,i just seem to have lost my mojo, tho i keep finding it then losing it all over again  all we can do is plod onwards and try try again...and keep doing that great job of being a blood donor - a role to be proud of ! X

Just looked at the blood donning web site. You have to be over 7st 12lbs(50 kg).No upper weight limit but you might not fit bed/chair if you are over 25 stone(158kg) and it is different if you are female and under 20 years old.
