Sorry to hear of your loss - pets are definitely part of the family and so sad when they get terrible illnesses, they've never done anything to hurt anyone.

Hope you're able to pull together as a family and support each other and remember the good times and the silly things that Caspar did (as all pets do!)

So sorry Julie, we know how it feels. Like Ballerina we will not be having any more pets. Our Jack a westie is 14 now and he is deaf and his eyesight is going. We know our heartbreak is getting nearer so he is getting extra cuddles now. Never again for us, we have had enough.

I was filling up reading your post, it's just dreadful losing a pet, unfortunately I've been there too many times. I smiled however when you said you'll plant a willow tree - one of my cats is called Willow.

Julie, i'm so sorry for you all for the loss of Casper. It's not weird or stupid to feel this way about a loved pet. Our westie died last year and we were heartbroken. My husband said he hadn't cried at family members funerals the way he cried over that dog.

Hugs to you all

Moogie- i love that poem it actually brought a tear to my eye

So very sorry for your loss. Pets make us healthier people by listening to our stories and always being there unconditionally and asking little in return. They de-stress our lives and love us no matter what. Our family pet was a cocker spaniel that was dressed up in Halloween costumes with our kids and sat at the table with birthday hats on. Holding him at the age of 16 to put him to sleep was one of the hardest things I have ever done.......but I wouldn't trade those memories for anything !! Thinking of you and your family during these difficult days ahead :frown:

I'm sorry for your loss. :( I don't know if it hurts worse to have a slow goodbye over weeks to say goodbye, so long as they aren't in pain. Or to have them go suddenly.

The latter happened to me, lost my doggy 4 months ago. He just collapsed one night, took him to emergency vet, didn't respond to treatment overnight, so we let him go the next morning.

All I can say is, it will get a bit easier, though we still miss them terribly every day. And if you get another pet, wait until all of you are ready.

Oh Julie, I'm so sorry for your loss. Take comfort that Casper had a lovely life and the end wasn't too painful or prolonged. Soon you will remember without pain - just with love and smiles.

Sorry for your sad loss Julie. Hope this is not weird but better to have had the joy of your beloved Casper. Knowing a pet and having them sharing your life is a such a lovely thing, an experience so special to have not missed, and the affection of a cat is very special.

It is very much a loss and grief process so thinking of you, take it easy.

So sad for you Julie. I have 3 cats, and have had 3 others before them. When each one passes its very traumatic. Caspar will be in cat heaven running after little mice and having a lovely time xxxx

(((Hugs))) Julie. Losing our furkids is one of the hardest things to deal with. I lost my "baby" last November after 18 loving years together. She loved me to carry her around and I used to throw her over my shoulder just like a baby and up the stairs we would go. Every morning she met me in the bathroom and I carried her downstairs for breakfast. I'll never have another like her.

Cherish your memories.......that poem that Moogie posted is wonderful. It'll make you cry......it did me, but you'll feel comforted too.

Take care.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, but I'm a firm believer that allowing them to have a dignified end as you have done is the final gift we can give them.

The loss that we feel is testament to the love that we gained from sharing our lives with them.

I have a large animal family, incluiding five cats, and dread the day that I have to say goodbye, but I know that I have given them a happy life; there are many that never get that chance.

I hope that you have many happy memories of Caspar to keep you going over the next few days. xxx

Really sorry to hear of your loss - we always have had dogs but whatever kind of pet you have they are part of the family and I never understand people who don't 'get' pain or grief over an animal. They love you and you love them back and they are loyal and great company.

So sorry to hear your sad news. We have always had cats and it is heartbreaking whenever we have lost one through illness, accidents or just old age
