Re: I need to de compress...

I wish my eldest two kids would hurry up and make me a Gran.

I too have no contact with my own mother as she also was toxic to me and the lads. yet my daughter adores her.

I will probably be an awful grandmother as I have episodes of control freakiness at times. Well you would when two of the lads are on the Autistic Spectrum and if they didn't have constant backup they wouldn't be able to cope.

There are so many people out there with parents like yours, and I think most of them either become terrible parents or particularly careful, loving ones. You are clearly in the latter category. My husband had parents who were too busy drinking and smoking to pay any attention at all to him - and he's been a great dad.

My kids are all 20-something and none near having kids (I hope!), so I'm envious of you actually.

Well, thanks to everyone replying, it is a tremendous support to read this. It is slowly sinking in, and I'm not so shell shocked today, its only Tuesday and all.

@Julieathome, my daughter is on the spectrum and asks "How do you be an Aunt?" I expected her to ask this.
Dont think you'd be an awful grandma as you say, just particularly protective as I will be should my daughter have her own kids one day, needing constant ever reassurance.

Congratulations!
It will be a wonderful experience I'm sure, lots of love and cuddles all round.
