Re: New Years Resolutions!

Resolutions are hard to maintain, but I agree with@Sallyo that gradually dealing with something every day is achievable. The Action habit is what's needed, so that will be one resolution for me and the other is to Notice.
Areas for Action.......
1)We should get rid of things we never use instead of talking about it: Our attic is full of things kept there " in case they come in useful". Including broken things, for spare parts? Well, we haven't seen them for years! At present though it's cold in the attic, I'll be up there, rapidly getting one thing out at a time.
Anecdote: I heard on the radio of someone clearing out their grandmother's attic finding an enormous bag of string which was labelled "String, too short to use " - it's bit like that in our attic.
2) my large collection of music scores is to be rearranged by composer alphabetically and this is a job that has to be done and completed in one session. At present I waste time and get annoyed hunting for some piece of music I want to use.
3) our huge collection of books is now double stacked. Totally impractical, and plenty there to give away. Deal with a shelf at a time.
Areas to Notice....
5:2 itself - not so difficult as it's part of my normal life, but being consistent between fast days limiting the carbs. I know that after bingeing I feel physically sick and I don't actually enjoy the moment, so, Notice it setting in. Right now it's important with abundant Christmas treats and not wanting to miss out. It's another habit of a lifetime. I see how easy it is to be tempted in shops by such clever marketing and display. Through 5:2 I'm much more selective than I used to be ( But NOTICE first, is another resolution, a bit like " think before you speak!" I would rather spend on clothes for my slimmer self and am doing this.)
I am sure this is achievable, and it's so helpful to spend time thinking about it and writing though it is perhaps long-winded to read!

@Sallyo, I think you have given me the answer to my de-cluttering dilemma. 365 objects evicted in a year sounds very good to me. :)

My New Year resolution(s) will be to effectively de-clutter at least 365 objects from our home. Most important of all, I want to refine my fasts; stay strict on my calories and always chose the healthiest options. I want my fast days to really count towards my health.

I had blood work done a couple of months ago and although there weren't miraculous changes, there was small improvement in the areas I needed improvement. Except for my cholesterol. That was a little bit worse. Perhaps 6 months wasn't long enough for me. A year may see more improvement.

Brilliant @Katharina, organisation is what I need and I'll try to follow your lead. I'll read through your comments again in January and hope I will get the same enthusiasm I'm feeling now, I might even make a start before then.

Like your ideas @Sallyo & @Katharina

Cookbooks to be recycled and use the ones you have is good advice and only keep the ones which I can't bear to part with. I have been tossing saved recipes which don't fit with a HFLC & 5:2 eating plan. Very liberating. General books need to be reduced as well

Another nice goal is when you bring something into the house a similar item has to go, this works well with moving along the clothes which you don't really need anymore. Need to do the same in the kitchen

In 2015 I am keen to get some creative projects done either in the garden or in my home. One is paint the outdoor tables and chairs glossy off white, already have some stripe cushions waiting. Then to cap it off I need to replant some hanging ferns and my outdoor area will be more visually pleasing

Sallyo wrote: I love New Year Resolutions and I like to make a lot of them! This year I resolve:

Not to buy any new recipe books for a year - except perhaps the Fermentation book that I've had my eye on.
To throw away one item every day in 2015.
I read a few blogs of people who did things like this. One person resolved not to buy any clothes - not even from op shops, and not even underwear for a year. She had to mend and recycle her own clothes. I thought about that, but decided I didn't want to do that as I will have my mother's inheritance coming in and I want to spend money on items which I can't otherwise afford and if I go to Italy, I'll want to buy shoes! But recipe books! I have far too many! I don't use half of them. I will fully explore the ones I have. At the end of the year I might have a big chuck of recipe books I haven't used, or I have found unsatisfactory.

The other blog I read was from someone who decluttered an object every day, ending up with 365 less objects in her house. This really appeals to me. I'm going to do it. Already, just thinking about it, I feel challenged!

Sallyo
I have been decluttering this year. YES! Less is more. I have donated my clothing as it gets too big for me to charity.
Donated books to Save the Childrens Fund. Even given my bookclub books to friends who then decided to give me a cookbook
I had always wanted. I have even got Hubby into decluttering and he has started with the offic e which has had a major make over and declutter. Its a great feeling. Still think I will continue with the decluttering/donating for a few more years. Just amazing how much comes into the house.

I'm the kind of person that needs goals so I do set resolutions. I need to give it a bit more thought, but I'd certainly like to keep up with my health goals as I have made great progress this year. I have drastically reduced sugar, grains, dairy and alcohol and in the last month, caffeine. I have no idea therefore why I have gained 6kg's despite fasting in the equation! What else:

My exercise habits have been appalling this year and so I need to get back to moving - anything so long as I move for an hour a day.
Need to sort out my wardrobe. I have defaulted to jeans and jackets at work and yoga pants and sneakers at the weekends. Didn't take me long to turn native....
Need to pass my exams. Don't care about how well so long as I get through.
Need more time with OH.

My resolution this year is no resolution
I don't want to add stress after that awful year and I don't keep them anyway so why bother
