It's a sad day for your corner of an amazing country, @Sallyo. As the others have said - at least you tried! Sometimes in politics one has to go backwards before moving on, so lets hope that your fellow countrymen and women see the errors of their ways at the next election. Meanwhile, keep on keeping on!

Thank you all. Yes,there are right wing extremists and it's hard to remember that. You think you've won and then they sweep back in and undo all the good work. I don't get it! Thanks for posting that link, Lizbean, it sums up the situation pretty well. The Forest Peace Deal was such a big deal. It took years and years of negotiations between the key players and NO ONE was completely happy with it because all of us had to give up something we wanted to reach that compromise position. There were forests protected, The Western Tiers, that I have been fighting for for 30 years. My cousin's daughter was involved in the battle for the Florentine, another area protected. So it's generations of us who have been involved in trying to protect these old growth forests. We celebrated our win. We got United Nations World Heritage status, and now, they want to tear that up. The UN is our hope. There are people who say that they will not be willing to revoke World Heritage status which they awarded only last year. But Tony Abbott and his crew don't seems to care what the UN has to say - look at Australia's treatment of asylum seekers. Oh well, carry on the fight.
@Sallyo well, we just have to keep going - protecting our natural resources - Africa is being ravaged land grab etc. It's time to keep positive and shout out

Coming in a little late to express my sadness & regret at the result, but admiration & respect for your continuous efforts. I truly believe there are more of us with common sense & love for our little blue rock & we will turn things around. Especially with women like you who are smart enough & strong enough to stand up for what you believe.
Please keep up the good fight @Sallyo and again thanks for what you have been doing. It is interesting what a small and beautiful blue world we are privileged to live on
