Tasmanian election result.
16 Mar 2014, 01:02
Many thanks to the wonderful friends on the forum who were thinking of me yesterday for our state election result.

I sadly report that we have had a bad result. The Green candidate in my electorate lost his seat and the government has changed hands to a right wing extremist party.

Now so much is under threat. In particular our beautiful environment is to be further mined and they will try to log the world heritage forest which we have only just managed to 'save'. People who protest will be fined heavily and be sent to jail. Interesting times ahead!!

Interesting times, well sadly so but congratulations on your courage to take a stand and follow your convictions. You have my admiration

Oh dear Sally. Hopefully in 4 years the damage is minimal and things can be restored to good order.

Can't put back very old forests and Tasmania really does have some fabulous old growth forests. Any tinkering is such a significant loss to our planet and for all of us, our children and their children. Just a trip down the Franklin, or walking in the national parks is enough to make you realise what is worth fighting for and what ought to be locked away. Sad sad sad day    :curse:

Oh, Sally. What can we say? You have taken a stand and that is so commendable. Respect. Very worrying that demonstrations, in a democratic environment are to be punished. Slippery slope that is...

Been trying to avoid listening to the inevitable on the radio. So proud of you for standing up for what we both believe in. 16 years of incumbency produced the 'it's time' factor. We can only hope that some semblance of common sense prevails.

How dreadful, why are people so short sighted and so downright horrible? I hope that you are able to keep some kind of check on these people and maybe prevent the worst happening :(

{{{+}}} At least you tried. If people didn't vote or voted just for a change, they may soon realise their error and make sure they get it right at the next opportunity. Hoping for the best.

It looks like the world is heading towards disguised dictatorships all over. We to have gagging laws now that don't allow negative discussion or criticism against the government. Its sad times.

That is bad news. As others have said well done for standing up for what you believe in. Just read this piece in The Economist appropriately titled Barking up the wrong tree (pre-election).
http://www.economist.com/blogs/banyan/2 ... s#comments. Fines and jail for demonstrating? That's outrageous          who are these people..........

Oh no! I'm so sorry! I always forget that there are right wing extremists even in the more civilized countries.

Thank you for all of your hard work trying! I hope you and your friends and teammates don't give up.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Sally. I fear for our own Congressional elections coming up in November.
