The Beatles

Calling @Hazelnut20, @Tracieknits and all Beatles fans!

Based on our conversation on the latest challenge thread, I thought it'd be fun to have a "Beatles" thread!

Is everyone aware of the movie coming out this week "Eight Days a Week"? The premiere is in London tonight. I'm going to see it on Sunday night. It's only out in theaters for a week and then it's going to streaming.

OMG thank you SO MUCH! I had no idea this even existed, and it's playing a few towns over from me today through Monday only :-)

I think I know what our plans are for Sunday

I feel like an old time Beatles fan (or maybe just "old"), but I suppose I saw them live in England about 6 or 7 times, starting at the Winter Gardens in Margate way before anyone even knew who they were (my research tells me it was 1963 - yikes!). My Mum got front row tickets for both Beatles Christmas shows at the Finsbury Park Astoria - see the link below if you don't know what that was all about:

http://mentalfloss.com/article/29388/be ... ws-1963-64

Of course I went to their movies. I belonged to their original U.K. fan club and still have nearly all the little glossy monthly magazines they sent us with pics and stories, etc. I never went to a U.S. concert - by that time, with those huge stadium shows and thousands of screaming fans, it was just never the same.

I loved them all, but Paul was (and still is) my favourite.

@cblasz the premiere is in London AND Liverpool too tonight!which of course is right and fitting!
We just missed out on tickets, they went so fast! It's blue carpet event here not red..just been watching on the news and listening to Julia Lennon being interviewed before going into picturehouseatfact.

We're going to see it over the next few days!yippppeeeee but wish i was there tonight!

@lovemy parrot how wonderful to have seen them live! Sigh!
My older sister saw them many times at the Cavern before they hit the big time...they had a huge following here - until Brian Epstein saw them play at the Cavern on my twelfth birthday in November 1961 and stole them from us  my big sister and her friends were heartbroken.

Well i mightnt have seen the Beatles but ive enjoyed many a night - and lunchtime - at the Cavern ..mostly in the mid/ late 60s..heady times! ...and also in the last few years tho of course its not quite the same as its not the original Cavern...

I remember those glossy little books so well ...and singing songs from the first album upstairs on the bus to school"there's a place" ... " anna"..."boys"

Its funny, everyone seems to stay loyal to the Beatle they first loved..my sis loved and still loves Paul...for me its always been Gorgeous Geaorgetastic George..

If anyone listens to Absolute Radio 60s they do a Beatles Brunch Sat am 10-12, repeated Sunday 10-12 then sunday evening 10-12... I never miss it! XX

I first saw the Beatles when they were on the Ed Sullivan show; my mom said, "Girls, come here and see The Beatles on TV"; I wondered, why do they have bugs on TV? I remember making up dances etc with my sister and neighbor (I was 9 in 1965), especially "I Saw Her Standing There" and "I Wanna Hold Your Hand." I suppose because I've always been a rebel/outsider, my fave has always been John... I recall being in the car on the way home from an evening seminar when the news broke....

Though other "British Invasion" artists are my overall faves, notably Bowie (RIP) and Led Zeppelin (still love Robert Plant, and respect his stance that he doesn't want/need to revisit the past).

I'm so jealous of all of you! I was born in 1970, so just missed all of it. I truly wish I were born earlier. But somehow I've become a huge Beatles fan nonetheless. When I was in High School, the CDs started coming out and my Chemistry teacher (a subject I struggled with) was a Beatles fan too, so I used to talk to him about it!

My friend an I go to as many Beatles events as we can. There's usually a Beatlesfest nearby in the summer, but for some reason they cancelled it this year. But we are going to see a band called the Fab Faux in a few weeks and the movie on Sunday night.

I've also seen Paul McCartney live 7 times from 1993 to this past summer. He's amazing. If you have never gone to one of his concerts you should. He plays Beatles and Wings and his own stuff. He has so much energy. He'll play for almost 3 hours without a break!!

I'm not old enough to have seen them live either. But my mom is a HUGE beatles fan and played Rubber Soul loudly nearly nonstop while she was pregnant with me. It's one of my favorite albums of all time :-P

My favorite is John. He was so much like my dad, although my dad had no musical talent. They even looked a lot alike and had the same goofy sense of humor. He died three years to the day after my dad died -- I was completely gutted. It was like losing my dad all over again. His music and his ideals have played a huge role shaping my life. When my mom has complained that I'm an athiest, I tell her "you raised me believing "Imagine" was the most beautiful song and sentiment in the world -- how could you expect me to be religious with that upbringing?" I love Yoko too - she's an amazing woman. And I may be odd, but I love her music. I hate to add this part, but often I love her music even more when it's covered by other people. I think she's a better composer than performer. Iggy Pop does a version of her song "I'm Going Away Smiling" that is just so beautiful.

Of course I think all of the Beatles are awesome. Ringo's drumming is so under appreciated, but it's really special and you can hear the difference when Paul plays drums on the White Album. Paul - what's not to love about Paul? Such a fabulous guy and performer, and George's sensitivity and exquisite guitar playing were just so amazing.

Did anyone see the movie yet? I've read some comments on Facebook and it sounds like it's amazing. I can't wait to see it tonight!!

well we have tickets to go, but it's all the way in Schenectady, which is a soliid 40 minute drive with no traffic. And my son is sick with a bad cold. HULU just announced they're streaming it today, so we may abandon our tickets and watch it at home on the couch tonight.

Oh that's a bummer Tracie. It'll be on HULU for a while, but I don't think it will be the same as seeing it in the theater. It's an hour away for me and I am exhausted and have work to do first, but it's the only day to see it!!

Well it turns out that I made the right decision -- we went to the doctor today and he tested positive for strep throat.

We watched the first half last night, but my son was tired and wanted to go to bed, so we'll watch the rest later. It was really good, but I think he was a bit bored.

I saw the movie in the theater Sunday night and loved it. It was so cool seeing all the concert footage and all the interviews and stuff. At the end, they showed 30 minutes of the concert from Shea. Did they do that on Hulu?
