The East Coast of Tassie
16 Sep 2014, 23:50
Hi,
Is there somewhere where you can weigh luggage other than bathroom scales, it didn't weigh my
cpap machine and it weighed 2.5 kg on the kitchen scale. How can I weigh my luggage and not go over 20kg. I'm not all that travel savvy if there is something I can do that I dont know about.

My daughter is going on a plane with us for only 70 minutes, but its her first time on a plane and she has Aspergers with anxiety. She is excited and I hope that stays that way for her. I am tempted to take a small sedative and give her 1/4 of it. But only as a last resort as insurance should she have a panic attack. I can't be in denial this won't happen but will focus on her excitement.

We are touring in a rental car to Bicheno, Wineglass Bay, Hobart and other places. Does 70 minutes in a plane go quick enough? I am going to have fish n chips on the docks at Hobart and must see the Moda museum and those rainforest walks.

Love to hear if you know Tassie or dont know Tassie

Well, you can buy luggage scales eg https://www.bagworld.com.au/shop/listin ... ge-scales/ but I'll be using my body weight scales to weigh my suitcase for going to China. But I won't be weighing individual bits and pieces, I'll weigh the packed suitcase. That will put the weight more into the range I would expect the scales to be accurate. ie the weight of a person. However, I've flown from Melbourne to Tassie in the middle of Winter, so with thick clothes, and not gone over the limit.
The 70 mins will go pretty fast. First there's the excitement of taking off and it seems like no time till its time to land. Would your daughter enjoy a window seat do you think?
Tassie is alovely place to visit. I've been twice and enjoyed every minute. I'd love to go again. Have fun!

Hi Zamale, yes I just use my bathroom scales. I've packed for 5 weeks overseas and not gone over 20kg and believe me I pack a lots of clothes and accessories. As Chook said 70 minutes is nothing, take stuff to keep her occupied, iPad, phone, books. Buy a snack on the plane - expensive but kids think it's wonderful to get something from the trolley and it's another distraction.
I loved Hobart and the Mona is amazing. It's worth doing the ferry ride from Hobart to the Mona. Have a great time and tell us all about it when you get back.

I use bathroom scales. The best way is to weigh yourself, then pick up the luggage and weigh yourself plus luggage then subtract one from the other. That way you can weigh items that don't register on the bathroom scales cos they are too light.

Hope you have a great time when you get there and the journey is not too stressful.

Zamale, we live in Tas, and the flight is normally pretty quick, and can take less than 70 mins sometimes.
You will have a wonderful time; if you want to see some up and close Tassie animals I recommend Boonerong Park in Brighton just outside Hobart. It had Tassie Devile, quolls, heaps of very tame wallabies etc., and they do a lot of good conservation work too.

That's right, @Zamale, I live in Tassie. We live in the North west though, near Devonport. If you are up this way , please get in touch and we'll have a meet up! When are you coming? Just make sure you bring enough warm clothes. There is snow on the mountains today, for example and it's freezing cold, even for a hardened local.

Thanks guys, lovely replies. Its warming up in Ballarat and Melbourne, so I was assuming Tassie may be warm or cold like Ballarat, we are usually few degrees under Melbourne. Cold at the moment, but Tassie is warming up according to the Elders app from Saturday through to Wed, with the highest temp of 22 on Tuesday. Weather is looking fine. Snow cap mountains sound very picturesque. Heaps of photos from onward of Satuday 27th Septs. Leaving Melbourne Saturday coming up. 2 more sleeps. When we do the north side, not this trip next year. I will look you up Sallyo.

Oh so jealous @zamale you lucky duck. MONA though can confront is absolutely wonderful and not to be missed just for the building and the ferry, oh the whole experience. And there is the art of course.

I was only there are few weeks ago in Hobart and I try to pack a wardrobe which has layers and mix and match. Thin knit wool items are good as they breath also.

Have a lovely time just the best holiday destination. Be assured
