Thanks Reil, Hudson came from CPL. We are believers of giving a cat a home because they need one. Thankfully my sadness has some smiles mixed in it now. I do believe what goes around comes around!

IF he deliberately killed your cat, and I don't think it would be easy to speed up and kill a cat, most cats do seem to have the proverbial nine lives, and are pretty adept at getting out of of harms way, it is horrible. But the tone of some of the comments about children being fair game as revenge is also pretty shocking. :?:

What a dreadful thing to have happened to your family. I love animals and have had a dog, then two cats, one of whom went out one morning never to be seen again so I really feel for you. Even after all these years I still wonder what happened to him and I've always said I'd rather have found him dead than not know but after reading about your pain I'm not sure I still feel that way. Losing a much loved pet is devastating thing and I am sending your whole family a great big group hug........ah!

I have not done an avatar yet but the other day I asked my resident IT expert (husband!) to show me how to do it as I have a really cute photograph of my next door neighbour's cat, Jenny, sitting in a drawer I had just cleaned out and was about to re-fill, she comes to live with us when her family go on holiday, so I shall dedicate my avatar to Hudson.

Hi Riel,

What a lovely post. I cannot face the trauma that comes with losings pets so now I look after friends and neighbours animals so they do not have to go into catteries/kennels and I get my pet 'fix' that way. I have had rescue animals in the past and would not dream of acquiring a furry companion any other way. Nice to know that there are so many kind hearted people on this forum.

I am very late catching up with this topic but as another cat person can I add my heartfelt condolences wildmissus, the whole situation is so full of grief and rage.

We too lost a cat on our (very quiet) road, though it was not deliberate and the driver was very apologetic. We then had a Freedom Fence fitted and our two cats now stay inside the garden.

Basically a hidden wire is run round the perimeter of the garden which carries some sort of very low voltage signal. Then the cats wear a collar and if they go near the perimeter they hear warning bleeps and if they get too near they get a little shock. They very quickly learn to keep away.

Sounds cruel? Less cruel than the road...

What a brilliant idea Dominic I had never heard of a Freedom Fence. We wanted to adopt two cats from Cats Protection but were refused after a home assessment because they felt the road outside our house is too busy. We live in a village on the High Street but unfortunately many people use it as a "rat run" shortcut to avoid A24 roundabouts & traffic jams at commuting times. Other times we have one or two cars an hour. I will speak to Cats Protection to see if they may re-consider if we used the Freedom Fence. Thank you.

Ballerina, thank you so much, your lovely post brought tears to my eyes (again) I completely understand why you pet sit now.

Dominic, wow, I wish I'd heard of that before, what a brilliant idea. I've bookmarked the website for the future. Our back garden is fenced in so it would work well. I don't think I'll ever be able to stop our other two cats from going over the fence now but they wouldn't need a collar. If we ever considered another kitten I'd get a freedom fence.

Isis, we live in residential part of our town and the road in question has traffic calming on it. The traffic calming narrows the road into one lane in the middle of the road and there is no right of way and what happens is that people see another car coming in the opposite direction and speed up to get through the traffic calming. Unfortunately cats are free spirits and have no road sense and across that road is the golf course and the draw for them to go over the road is very high. I hope that CPL will let you have a cat if you put in a freedom fence.

Personally, I would have had already formed a plan of revenge and perhaps already executed it. Some people don't get it otherwise. I wouldn't go after his kids but still, I'd do something very nasty. Unless I was a man. In that case, I'd just give him a sample of my kicking arse method.
I know that we aren't all the same and not everybody thinks like that but this man clearly killed someone and in my book this calls for punishment.
