My poor cat
28 Mar 2013, 19:44
Following on from my recent post about the avatars and the responses, I want to thank everyone for there kind comments and update you.

I removed my avatar of my 8 month old kitten yesterday at I found my lovely kitten lying at the side of the road when I went home for lunch yesterday. Myself, husband and two girls are devastated as he was a brilliant cat with a larger than life personality. We have two other older cats and they are still looking for him.

Today my youngest daughter came home from school to announce that a boy was bragging that his dad had killed a cat on that road yesterday and that he sped up to get it. Well, I am furious and want to do something about this. I know the boy in question, I know his mother to say hello to and only know of his father and I know where they live. I am also aware that he may have heard of our loss from someone else first but my daughter and her friends hadn't been anywhere near him today but I must keep open minded.

So my husband drove up to their house and the blokes work vehicle has a fresh dent in the bumper where you might expect to see it. He then went to the police (I just want the man to get a fright and realise how upset we are). The police cannot do a thing - it is perfectly legal of to kill a cat!!! My husband is now composing a carefully worded letter to the man to let him know how upset we are or to at least let him know what his son was bragging about at school.

Sorry for the rant but it has made me feel a little better putting this down in writing.

That's absolutely shocking wildmissus, I don't know what to say.

We had a spate of cats getting run over on our road, including 2 of ours, and I thought I knew who had done it as he had a habit of speeding up and down the road.

I told him that if another of my cats got run over I would make sure I ran over one of his kids. So far...we've been lucky.

I hope you manage to find some peace. Image

Being a cat person my heart goes out to you. What a sad and horrible situation for you and your family. What kind of person deliberately tries to hurt a cat? So sorry for your loss. I've always thought is awful that cats are classed as wild animals and nothing can be done about these things. I hope you and your family come to terms with the situation and that the awful man who did this gets his comeuppance.

Rest in peace kitty, enjoy chasing the butterflies on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

That's really shocking! How awful for you and so much worse than thinking it had been an accident! I really sympathise. One of my cats disappeared for good the other month so I completely understand how you must be feeling. Hugs.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT???
It's legal to kill a cat??????????????????????
What on earth?
This man is lucky that your husband is not Greek. If this happened here and we knew who did it, he would get lots of non-carefully worded kicks in the arse!!!
I don't know if that sounds bad or violent to you but what he did is inexcusable and I can't believe that the police can't do anything about it!!!

I'm very sorry for your loss, I don't know what else to say, it must be horrible for you and your family. I hope that this guy gets what he deserves. What goes around, comes around!

I would have said the same to him....if my cat is fair game so is his children......or he could find one of them missing....

Wildmissus - sending you and the family hugs, these little furry chums don't half leave a big hole when they have gone. As for this unspeakable person, words cannot describe the disgust I'm feeling right now, can't imagine what I'd do in your position-

Some people are just so cruel. I'm so sorry to hear abiut your kitten - it is always terrible to lose a pet, especially in circumstances like this. I have a neighbour who has shot dead 2 of my cats......

Wildmissus I know exactly how you feel we have lost two of our cats under cars, in a year. I had 3 litter mates now just one remains. I have two new brothers to keep him company and now none of them are allowed outside. I just can't go throught the pain I felt when we lost Lily and Dexter again.
It just beggars belief that there are people like this walking around. I just can't imagine purposely hurting an animal and anyone who brings their child up to think that it's OK shouldn't have kids in my opinion. Some people make you ashamed to be a human!

My Avatar is Nigel one of my big soppy siamese boys.

Wildmissus
As a cat lover my heart goes out to you & your family, what a horrible thing to have happened. That this man cannot be punished is outrageous, communities used to send people to Coventry so they were publicly ridiculed & to boast to his own child that he had done this shows what a truly sick man he is.
I truly hope he gets his comeuppance somehow. The woman who put a cat in a bin was a least caught on camera & prosecuted by the RSPCA.
I use the name Isis because that was my cat's name & I still think of her every day. Try to have happy memories of your kitten.

wildmissus....I have to say at the outset...Im not a 'cat person' .....but that is unimportant....harming any living creature is totally abhorrent to me....how dare this man do this!!!! and how sad it is that he would boast about it ....that poor boy ...how is he being brought up???????? that deliberately killing a cat is 'normal' and something to boast about ????
It is said that serial killers and psychopaths have been 'de-sensitised' by killing and watching animals being killed in their childhood!!!!!
God help our society when this is the kind of parenting that is out there!!!
I hope you and the kids get over your horrid loss soon.....perhaps a new little kitten??...In the mean time the biggest of hugs xxxxxxxxxx

Wildmissus,
I'm so sad to read your post and so angry too, to think what this man has done to you and your family. It doesn't bear thinking about how the son will turn out!!
I just hope that Karma pays him a visit soon!

Just wanted to say how sorry I am for the loss of your lovely kitten, and that your children have had to be exposed to such abhorrent behaviour. Although the police appear unable to do anything, it may be worth notifying the Scottish version of the RSPCA to ensure this oxygen-thief is known to them in case of further incidents in the area. Sending you and your family lots of love and furry hugs.

Thank you everyone for your support. I have to say that there were more tears when I was reading your comments. Some of you have some horrible stories.

I thought I'd give you an update on what we did as I couldn't just leave it there. I did contact the SSPCA and you've guessed, same as the police...prove it!

So my husband wrote a letter them telling them what was said and if it was true then this is what we think but if the boy made it up then this is what we think.

The boy at the age of 5 (he is 12 now) was 'strange' - he behaved like a little old grandad and had difficulty socialising with kids his own age which is why my daughter asked to have him over all those years ago (she's a caring girl who always used to want to bring home vulnerable kids). The wife always speaks to me when she sees me and is very pleasant. The husband, who I don't know has not got a good reputation and has extreme views on what his son can and can't do (he is not allowed friends in their house).

If my husband had addressed the letter to the husband I suspect the letter might have gone in the bin and he doesn't know us anyway.

We got a reply this morning. He says he didn't do it. He admits that his son did say it and he was very sorry. He was very annoyed that we had written to his wife mentioning it a couple of times at different parts of the letter.

I think we may have upset them - mission accomplished.

I don't know what to believe but I have to put this to bed as it won't bring Hudson back.

Hi, I have just read about your little kitten, I had a cat run over, he was around 13, it hurt loads but at least he had a life. Remember God loves all his creations so your little kitten will be chasing butterfly's with him now. There will always be cruel and vicious people about and although it's hard when they impact your life, feel sorry for them, they will never know the joy just watching a kitten play can bring. Please, if you decide to get another cat, try the cat protection league, if you haven't already, then you can save a life and perhaps restore the balance slightly. I hope you will soon be able to remember your cat with just love and affection and for get the horrible  And as we say in our family purrs and furrs
