Totally disgusted and appalled. What an absurd system.
So sorry you have had to go through all that - hope things start to look and feel better very soon x

That is just rotten, of the whole system. So much for "preventative" care huh? I had lingering infection after my gallbladder removal so it took longer to recover than I expected, I can only imagine the frustration you are going through right now. I hope you feel better soon and the wound heals nicely!

OH MY GOD!!! How awful and how needless!!!

You know, many Northern European doctors blame the Greek system (both the equivalent of the NHS and the private insurances/doctors) for paying too much money for prevention instead of curing. Personally, I always found that preventing is much better (and cheaper) than curing and I will never understand why any health system would aim in curing instead of preventing, as they tell us to do here in Greece.

Anyway, I wish you a speedy and painless recovery so that you will be able to enjoy your holiday. It would be an understatement if I said that you surely deserve it!!! Please keep us posted and feel free to rant (although you didn't, honestly)!

Thanks for all your good wishes, makes me feel better already, even if I did jump a kilo this week. The nurse at the surgery suggested I stop fasting but I have made too big a committment over the past 10 weeks to stop now. On On as they used to say at Port Moresby HASH.

Why did she suggest to stop fasting? Did you ask her?

What you went through is horrific, Moscow, and totally unnecessary. My 26 year-old daughter developed a cyst on her back last Autumn - but nowhere near as big and painful and yours sounds - and as soon as she showed it to our (private) dermatologist, who also works in an NHS hospital, he prescribed antibiotics to lessen the swelling and arranged for a consultation with a surgeon at the NHS hospital he is attached to. She was then given an outpatients appointment for its removal to coincide with the end of the course of antibiotics and, although it turned out to be "deeply embedded", all went smoothly, including the aftercare, and was sorted in less than 2 months.

Many Italians consider their NHS to be the pits, but my luckily limited experience of it has been rather positive. I just can't understand how and why your NHS and private insurance refused to deal with it and think you should lodge formal complaints with both!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and happy holiday - you deserve it :clover:

Rant away Moscow - you are right......I am just amazed that you are continuing to fast with what you have been through. Your perseverance will pay off in all aspects of your health.
Wishing you a speedy recovery and an enjoyable relaxing holiday.

Rants are a great way to avoid actual physical violence...I love a good rant.
I feel for you, I'm on the 2nd week of anti-biotics and had to have a phone convo with a Dr that had to be heard to be believed.
Hope your feeling better soon x
