Funeral today
16 May 2013, 06:23
My mother in law died 10 days ago and it's her funeral today. A very low key affair, she was very old and ill, but I'm feeling very sad and apprehensive. Wasn't even close to her, but bringing back memories of my mother (whom I had a complicated relationship with) who died 5.5 years ago. Went ahead with fast yesterday so at least that's out of thexway for this week.

Dunno, just looking for some cyber hand holding I guess.

Ah, Swedey, you're not on your own. I'll be thinking of you and virtually holding your hand (and passing tissues which I secrete in my bra) and generally having your back.
Hope it isn't too painful and that you get through it.

My wife lost her mother just before Christmas, funeral just before New Year, very old and infirm etc but still a very sad time. Happy to hold hands, and hope everything goes well today - I don't really know what else to say but chin up!

Thinking of you today, if it starts to get too much just imagine jane secreting tissues in her bra (sorry, in my family we tend to inappropriately turn to humour at times of grief) x

A difficult day for you - amazing how internet friends can empathise with you. I hope it is the sort of funeral where people can remember the good things and happy memories of your m-in-l, and feel she is now at peace!
Thinking of you..........

Been through the same with my father in law when he died in April. Like you I wasn't close to him - he was a very difficult man. (I get on great with my mother in law). Also my parents no longer have anything to do with me and my sister - complicated but we don't lead our lives the way they want us to (we don't go to church!). Anyway in April there were all sorts of emotions coming up, some of which were very selfish on my part which questioned the sort of relationships I have (especially with my husband as he is his fathers son). I kept to my usual routine and I kept the communication going between my in-laws and myself - I don't believe in keeping anything hush, hush! Now six weeks on I feel that the sadness of what happened has brought about better relationships between all of us. I'm thinking about you today.
