Loved Miles Kington's column in Punch, and the whole Franglais theme. When climbing in the south of France years ago with a mate who had A-level French we use to amuse ourselves by translating colloquial English sayings into rough French, such as "J'irai au pied du nos escaliers" for "I'll go to the foot of our stairs..." etc.
This was brought on by finding in Harrops huge dictionary that the French had the phrase "Dans le semaine due quatre Jeudis" which was equivalent to "When pigs fly" apparently. Actually the English equivalent is "Never in a month of Sundays" of course...

My parents had a series of cards along similar lines. My favorite was "Il à des idées au dessus de son gare" = "he has ideas above his station"

Another Punch favorite of mine - diner pointing to plate saying "Cette n'est pas un escargot sans maison, cette est un slug!"

Update: just remembered another friend's contribution - "Comment ca va, Monsieur le medecin?" (Bugs Bunny).
