Tada! First egg!
13 Jun 2013, 06:44
I got four chickens nearly three weeks ago (they were only 16 weeks old), and got my first egg this morning! And a little double yolker at that.

Readers, I ate it for breakfast.

It's great isn't it. We have three chooks and I love their eggs.

Nothing beats a really fresh egg! We've kept chickens for 5 years and I love them, still enjoy going to get a lovely, warm egg! :-D

I miss my chooks! It's such a lovely experience collecting eggs isn't it? And I love the way the responsible hen announces what she's done and struts about all pleased and loud.

Hope you did the egg dance! (dancing round the garden holding the egg up and singing "chick, chick, chick, chick, chicken, lay a little egg for me")

I have quail (all 9 of them)

I remember my first quail egg about the same time as i started 5:2 actually. No association but maybe its all part of my new health path.

and got a record 5 eggs today. (3 quail eggs = 1 chicken egg)

It felt so good seeing 5 little round beatiful specked eggs.

Carorees - we used to sing that song every time we had chicken when I was young. As chicken was an occasional Sunday dinner & quite expensive then - oh I sound old

Just realised everyone's talking about their lovely chickens & I'm talking about eating chicken - bad taste :?: Sorry

Awwww! I'd sooo love to have chooks! I grew up with chooks and ducks. Grandad even had pigs. The chooks ran wild in a big apple orchard. Happy times. I'd love to keep a few but we live in a rented house and its written into the lease that we can't have them. I do get gorgeous eggs though from a chap in the next village. I even get a few of the strange blue eggs at no extra charge.

We have four hens, two from last year and two from earlier this year, although we had our first four when I took early retirement in 2004, one of which only died last year. The current ones are all laying and they are real characters! I don't sell our surplus but do give them away to our neighbours, so everyone is happy! They are great fun to watch and our grandchildren love them when they come to stay. A really fresh egg is a wonderful thing!

How wonderful!! I had chickens once upon a time. They laid lovely eggs and made rather nice meals for the hawks, eagles and coyotes that lived nearby. I finally gave up. I'm unfit to properly care for outdoor animals!
