Girl! I hope anyway. Think the changes in the constitution will actually mean something that way.

I did laugh how the home secretary is supposed to be present to avoid a baby swap

I am cynical enough to be keeping an eye on what the Government will try to slide through parliament whilst everyone is cooing about the new prince or princess.
Yawn!
Well it's a boy!
IT'S A BOY and fittingly for this site 8lb 6oz
Phew, thank goodness gillymary and I didn't have bet on this or I might now owe her 100 calories, congrats to the new mum and dad, respect to gillymary as she clearly knows more about pregnant bellies than I do,

Yay I made 5 dollars , my daughter bet me Kate would have a girl and I thought she would have a boy great way to start my day here waking up to hear the news of the new princes safe arrival.
I think there is so much excitement around this because after lots of negative and sad news stories of late is nice to have a good news story even if it only a distraction for a short while before real life kicks back in.

Does he have a name yet? Not sure if/what traditions surround naming the little prince. I couldn't have missed the announcements...must have gotten 20 breaking news pop ups on my tablet and ipod touch when they went to the hospital and then more again when he was born. I have to admit a lot of Americans are fascinated with the whole royal thing... probably because we don't have any here.
No names yet, 4:3tweaker but the royal family aren't usually very quick at telling us names, although William and Kate may break with tradition and let us know sooner. You can be sure that the names will be longer than the baby though!
I'm interested because I'm a bit of a history buff--the Royal Family has figured so prominently in the history of the last 800 years or so that I couldn't NOT be interested!
From a political science point of view they are useful today because they take on the ceremonial role of the Head of State and serve as a non-political rallying point for national unity.
Here in the States our Presidents have to be both Head of Government and Head of State--a crushing burden for a modern President. This dual role makes the Head of State more political and less unifying than would be ideal.
Of course, I also enjoy the gossipy, fashionista, photogenic angle of the whole thing.
Best wishes to the new baby and parents. (Too bad it isn't a girl, though!)
