What are you listening to?
07 Aug 2013, 08:18
Loving the 'what are you reading?' thread and just back from holidays and self imposed music silence. Missed it badly and now am running through my Linkin Park catalogue, boogying and head banging and having a rare old time- lots of NEAT being used up as I unpack, do washings and catch up.
So, what are you all listening to-music wise?

At this moment, I'm listening to my 10 year old daughter playing some rather lovely Boccherini on her violin! She's good!! :)

Last night they were playing Listz during my surgery. I felt like it was a good omen for my piano playing - not that I could ever play Listz. Other than that I've been listening to a lot of Veronica Falls lately.

Doodle, that takes me back 25 years! Is she following the Suzuki method by any chance?

I've just gone onto YouTube and I'm listening to it now! Thanks for the memory!

I've been listening to Carla Bruni's new CD "Little French Songs" a lot the past few days - in large part because I was in the car a lot this week, and I just haven't bothered swapping out the CD.

My favorite bands of all time are either the Beatles or the Cure. Depends on my mood :-P

Local Radio at work or mix of CD (shop).

At home everyone has their own thing, from Country to Heavy Metal (teenager & me). Just depends on the mood. :victory:

I really like Pink at the moment. Her new album hits the spot for me

ABC FM interspersed with the MP3s of music I'm learning for choir. It's the Mahler 8, choir1, sop1. It's difficult music; Mahler is rather different to most of the music we sing. It's taken a while to get to grips with but I'm starting to love it!

Radio 3 Essential Classics - trying to guess the daily Brainteaser!

Loved local radio- Clyde and Moray Firth! Radio here is pitifully rubbish and I hate it. I can do interweb radio and get really mixed up because of hte time difference.
Would love to be listening to the birds but it's so flaming hot and there is so much extraneous noise, that natural silence does;t exist :(
Had my Linkin Park fix this morning and Beloved has put on P!nk- wonder if he's reading the forum?
Love classical too

Doodle, brilliant! Lucky you listening to all that fantastic music daily. :like:

My two children both played the violin - up to the end of book 6, IIRC. I found that I was learning along with my kids, so my wife bought me a full-size violin. My top piece was Dvorak's Humoresque - but then I got osteo-arthritis in my fingers and could no longer close the finger board!

I should have switched to the keyboard straight away - but I did nothing until about 15 years later I tried the keyboard, but found my motivation was lacking, and I gave that up after a couple of years.

Enjoy these times with your daughter - remember, you're bringing up the mother of your grand children!

About listening to music in general - I try and stick to R3 until the opera or some annoying quiz gets in the way of the music, and then I switch to Classic FM.

And sometimes, when the adverts intrude, I switch to this Swiss on-line music station - just light classical music with NO adverts. The only thing is the language is either French, German or Italian - you choose:

ATM, it's playing a Mozart piano sonata

B&W

B&W that's fantastic!

We have a musical household - I teach piano, and also sing. My husband plays cello, as does my eldest of 19. He began with Suzuki but swapped to a non-Suzuki teacher at 11. My middle one has just achieved a distinction in her grade 8 oboe :) Youngest is the Suzuki violinist but is swapping teachers this summer (changing schools) so she is really enjoying playing through all her repertoire so far so she can show her new teacher where she's got to.

I don't play strings at all, but have a go occasionally on her violin - I'm not as good as she is! Nowhere near!!

So sorry to read of your osteo-arthritis. That must have been an awful thing to come to terms with.

I love your sentence about me bringing up the mother of my grandchildren. Thank you! It is our 23rd wedding anniversary tomorrow and I'm feeling quite emotional now!

Thanks also for the link to the Swiss station - will definitely investigate that one.
