What WAS in your stocking??
22 Dec 2013, 20:23
Well what was in your Christmas stocking when you still believed in Santa Claus?

For me I remember ::
an orange
an apple
nuts
chocolates
a puzzle
a toy/doll
colouring books
coloured pencils
wax crayons

What are your memories?
What do you think today's youth + young would say if they received my list on Wednesday morning. (crap!!!)
OH memories sometimes good sometimes sad
sometimes bad, but they do stay with you.  Sue

Yes SueQ.... the same sort of things as you've already mentioned. We followed the idea through with our 3 kids giving small inexpensive gifts from FC.... then a bigger present from us. Luckily they never asked why others seemed to get really big expensive presents from FC and they only got smaller trinkets - it was always important to us that they knew where the gifts came from and realised the cost behind them (obviously not literally but enough to appreciate things and not think FC had a bottomless wallet!).

Growing up in the 50s I remember having a stocking with fruit wrapped in tissue paper, chocolate coins in gold paper, a 'dressing up' doll book with outfits to cut out, a bag of sweets, maybe a couple of small toys like a yoyo or rubber ball, then I'd have one main present and if I was lucky an annual, usually Rupert the Bear.

We never had a stocking - we had pillow cases. We usually had one main present and a few small ones as you say @callyanna there was usually an annual and a selection box.

When my girls were younger we didn't spend as much on them as we end up doing now, as long as the boxes looked the same size. This year I have promised to take my girls into the Boxing Days sales - nuts or what!

@SueQ it is just before 8am here too soon for the red but and am contemplating drinking much more of it this coming year as an Australian Scientist has discovered it might be the elixir of youth. Something to do with our mitochondria. That is my excuse anyway, as I will also be eating more grapes and blueberries, he is hoping to make a pill ... I can't wait that long.

Back to stockings I must be deprived we didn't have stockings or sacks, and for a couple of my childhood Christmases my presents were so practical I was so upset. Like a hairbrush and a book one year. Mind you it might have passed down as socks, jocks, bathroom items still pop up in my sons presents. Yes he had a stocking!

My mum was a bit eccentric. We had the usual satsuma etc but she would buy a second hand paperback and split it into 3 and my 2 sisters and I would get a section each!
This is the year we have finally decided to stop doing stockings for our kids ( we always have christmas together and so far all the kids tag along) The youngest cousin is 18 now but my children are 30,27 and 24!The 24 year old wasn't very happy when I told him the end had come.
