Your style advisor
21 Nov 2013, 16:09
My friend gave me a voucher today for 20% off Marks and Spencer. I don't usually shop there (not been in a store for about 3 years!), so I sat down to browse online.
Now, having, like many of you, lost a lot of weight, I am loathe to buy the same dull clothes I used to wear, so this caught my eye

I completed it and, low and behold, I was impressed, so much so that I might, actually, cross the threshold of the big new store at Cheshire Oaks.

Even if you can't shop at Marks, it's a useful little tool for the less than confident dresser (me)

I'm just back from my 20% off M&S shop, I'm interested to try that link and see if I bought the right things
Edit I got though to the last page and it won't let me click Next...the suspense is terrible

Thanks for that Penny, loved when they said, 'we think you will dislike ALL of these' and they were RIGHT!

It has frozen for me too!

Merlin, in desperation I went back and liked a number of things that I didn't much like and it has gone through, so time to start again

Thanks for that Penny and it looks like I might be very hard to please as far as their Style Advisor is concerned! I very rarely shop in M & S as I think they've lost their way a bit and I don't quite fit their idea of a sixty something...!
However, today hubby and I went in to get him some new trousers....he's shrunk to a smaller size and all his other trousers were beginning to look silly, rather gathered at the waist....well done him! Got two pairs to keep him going over Christmas. 'Twas amazingly busy in there!

M&S is busy because they have been distributing 20% off vouchers like confetti!

Not tried the link yet but I wanted to say that things have changed in the past few months at M&S and I think they have been given a bit of an unfair rap just lately. Now granted I get to shop in Oxford St and Newcastle (where they get a lot of the new ranges before the other stores). I have bought a number of items from the Autograph range and also from Limited Collection. The merchandising is now spaced out rather than everything jammed together and they seem to have a wider ranging of sizing. In fact wearing 3 items from M&S today and a number of people have commented on my outfit. Their faces were a picture when I said where they were from.

Having said all of that:
The good stuff goes immediately. I saw a coat in Grazia, went on line and it was sold out. I hotfooted it into town and bought the last coat in the store luckily in my size.
It varies from store to store. I was in M&S Birmingham last Saturday and it was shocking. Frumpy and a limited range. Hexham is the same.
Per Una is dreadful and they should consign the Classic range to the bin. Even many elderly ladies I know would not be seen dead in that range. Horrid. M&S please note that most ladies in their 80's are pretty stylish these days. I saw two elderly ladies in Birmingham laughing out loud at their classic range.

I'm a bit of a fashionista and good at style shopping so I would encourage you to give them a second chance. But be selective!

I didn't like most of the tops they picked out for me, as I'm long in the body (they didn't ask me about that!) and most of them were quite short.
But (shock horror) I was looking at dresses! I'd need to see them on, but they were nice fitted styles!

oh boy, did they get it wrong! Why is everything black?Ugh.
Think the only way I'll get updated is if Auntie Gok gets me!

@Merlin is M&S at Cheshire Oaks an outlet or a full store?
Re: Your style advisor

There are both. A full very new one supposed to be one of the biggest outside London which is apart from the main part of 'village' and an outlet store in the main area.
When you leave the motor way the 'village' is off the 1st roundabout, M&S off the 2nd not really in walking distance.

It worked for me and it showed some stuff I wouldn't have probably picked off the hanger, but that looked good on the model.
If you get to the page where it asks you to choose styles/colours that you like or dislike and it freezes on you. Just refresh the page and pick from the selected items with as few 'swaps' as you can do.
