Delighted or Disappointed?

I know most seem to be doing the 5/2 as a weight loss diet but, if I remember the original TV program correctly, the main idea of the diet was as a generally more healthy way of eating. I'd pretty much hit the weight I wanted anyway before I started the diet (~ 23 BMI), and started the 5/2 as a way to try and keep the weight off - which it has clearly done for over a year so far (during that time I think I've only missed four or five diet days).

So, basically very happy with the diet.
Well done Barry for keeping the weight off with 5:2 -
and no doubt lots of health benefits into the bargain!
So out of curiosity, are you doing the 6:1 for maintenance or still the 5:2? If maintaining where do you think you are using your extra calorie allotment? Weekends, spread through out the week, alcohol...
Well done :like: I'm sure many people would like to know how exactly you did it so they can apply it to their maintenece.
Hi Barry, well that is great news. I have also been following 5:2 for the health benefits and treat my weight loss as a positive side effect. I have been maintaining for just over 3 months and it is so good to have feedback from people who have been doing 5:2 for considerably longer. I still do fast days twice a week. Other than that every other day is pretty much the same with regards to food intake and I eat whenever I want. I don't drink alcohol. On the plus side I no longer have blood sugar high/low swings and I am full of energy and apart from my numerous allergies have no other health problems. Will be interest to read about your health experience.

I'm still doing 5:2. I'm not really sure where the calories get replaced - I guess I just tend to overeat a bit the other days - but the fact that just eating to be full means I eat more than I need is why I put on weight in the first place.
Actually, I will add the addendum that, although I haven't really lost much weight I'm pretty sure I've replaced some fat with muscle over the time I've been doing the diet - mainly because during that time I've also been indoor climbing a couple of times a week, so I guess I have probably lost another couple of kilos of fat and put on a similar amount of muscle.
All sounds good to me BarryNL - good to see people maintaining on this WOL and it's obviously working for you :like:
