Delighted or Disappointed?

Hi all! I'm hoping someone can enlighten me. I had read somewhere on here (can't find thread) about a tendency among some people to plateau at the 6 month mark or thereabouts.

For me that corresponds to October and I didn't lose at all last month. It was only after reading those comments that I connected the dots and thought, hmmmm, maybe that's happening.

I've been a slow loser anyway, but at least I felt I was consistently losing. To me, just focusing on hardcore food restriction 2 days a week has been a life saver! I still track on MFP the other days, but it is so liberating to not fret when invited out to dinner or when lunch gets catered in at the office.

Bonus question - plateau busters: what helped you crush the plateau? (Time alone, low carb, 4:3 etc? I've been trying to watch my carbs on non-fast days, with varying success... work in progress!)
Hello again fellow avatar

Yeah it happen so hang in there, I am a slow loser, and I have just ramped things up but also watch out for the famine effect. Agree with you that has also included no carbs fast days except those in in the non starch veggies. I have been doing fluid fasting, winter was veggies the green soup of roasted garlic mushrooms and spinach on the forum was devine and summer now is the green smoothy @rawkaren recipe for past couple of weeks. Find that is enough of a straight jacket for me.

Also a work in progress I am close to goal and have a sweet tooth so next to go will probably be sugar. Ditzing the carbs ratcheted me down past the plateau, or that plateau anyway. All the best fitfunk
It was a thing for me...can't speak for everyone, though. I remember the thread and have read some articles about plateaus, too. I think it is fairly common; but I'm sure it doesn't happen to everybody.

I lose slow and plateau often. What works for me is just changing things up. Often. Eat more. Eat less. Eat different things. Move more. Move less. Do different types of exercises. 4:3, 5:2, low carb, windows, etc.
Hi yes I think Dr M stated in the book that the 6 month point is the usual plateau, and many members hit them at various times along the way. For me when at the 4mth stage I also reduced my carbs on all my days + tried to avoid on F/days.
this actually kickstarted my weightloss.
I've done 4:3 from my begining so that wasn't the reason.
My 6 months point has just gone and i was away on my holidays at the time so i do think that this was the mix-up my body needed because with no fasts on my hols and eating far too many carbs i gained 5 kgs
returned to fasting day after my return and it took 10days to lose the gain.So i assume i'm back to the losing again
I certainly hope this is so because i'm not even at my
half-way point yet
No complaints whatsoever quite the opposite i'm really pleased with my results. Good Luck :clover: Sue. :clover:
Thanks all, that's very helpful! I'm in physio for a hip injury, so they have me doing all sorts of new exercises, including the bike and elliptical, which I'd never really used before. So hopefully my experiments with eating windows, carb monitoring and new fitness routines bounce me back into losing. I'll keep you posted.

I'm still very happy with the weight I've lost (and kept off) these past months. It's nice to fit comfortably in my clothes again. But now I'd like to fit into some of my jeans-of-various-sizes collection! :like:
