It's official - in 5 months on 5:2, I've been able to bring my cholesterol from 'nearly needing medication' levels to 'nearly normal'. And several doctors told me it was usually not possible to control with diet.
Total cholesterol has dropped from 6.3 to 5.7, and my ratio has gone from 7.9 to 5.7 (<5.5 is normal)!! My 'good' cholesterol is up a bit, and 'bad' cholesterol is down a bit, and my GP is amazed and pleased! He was asking me in more detail what 5:2 entailed just now ...
My weight loss has really plateaued at 5 kg, hasn't changed really for a few months ... but I have a lot of complex health problems which might be contributing to this. So that's been rather disappointing. It may just take me much much longer to reach my weight goals.
But this improvement in cholesterol — while still having butter on feast days — makes it all worthwhile.
