Delighted or Disappointed?

10 posts Page 1 of 1
Hi,
I'm
New to the forum but not really new to 5:2. I started in November and lost a stone in 5 weeks. Then due to having all over January off of 5:2 because I was in hospital with my daughter) I re-gained 8lb. For the last 3 weeks I've been trying to get it off and I haven't shifted a pound. This week I recalculated my tdee and I stick to that on normal days and a quarter of it on fast days. I'm drinking between 1.5-2L of water a day and I'm on day 4 of the 30 Day Shred. I weighed myself today (morning after 2nd fast) and I'm still the same, how can this be? How can it not be working for me?x
Hi & sorry to hear of your disappointment and frustration. I just want to clarify, you're not saying you fasted while pregnant and just had a little girl in January are you?

What's your BMI please? It may be that you are close to your ideal and your body isn't keen to shift the weight. Also if you've been exercising you may be converting fat to muscle (which weighs more). Have you tried measuring as well as weighing, you may be losing inches.

Give it a little more time, if you're close to your ideal weight already and only have 8lbs to lose it may take a bit longer for it to come off than it did before (when you had more to lose). If you can tell us a little more about your situation perhaps we can offer some more advice and suggestions.
At a guess I would say that she wasn't having a baby. But I know why you asked the question Moogie. The 30 day shred is very hard work and I expect that this is a massive contributing factor to the absence of weight loss. In my experience it's harder to lose weight I've gained whilst on 5.2 for what ever reason. It seems that my body just gets stubborn and won't let it go a second time. Keep at it, don't stress too much as this stops weight loss as well.
Thanks Moogie, my BMI is still 30.1. No my 2 year old was unwell and spent January in gidpitsl and I was living on hospital junk which is why I regained some weight. I did measure on Monday when I started the shred so it's a bit early to re-measure yet x
I hope you're right Caroline and that it does start going sooner rather than later. I still have almost 2 stone to lose so there's no reason for it to be clinging on x

@WeddingdresstoosmallTake a look at my tracker.
Not everyone can lose fast. I'm a slow loser  but it tends to stay off. I had a Hysterectomy beginning of December and a holiday in august, all the humps are there to see.
Exercise slows down the loss due to building of muscle and the water needed to repair the tears in the muscle fibres. Stick with it and come back smiling when it starts to shift again.
Ps. Hope your little one is ok now.
I think there are some great answers there for you. It can take a long time for you to lose the weight you gain (I know that only too well. I'm still not at my pre-Christmas weight) but if you stick with this way of eating, just stick with it, I'm sure it WILL come off! Trust me...I'm a nurse

Do hope your baby is ok

Bean xx
Hello

Not being an expert in any way, I would look at:
- How many carbs are in the TDEE you eat on non-fast days?
From my time with paleo I've learned that keeping carbs between 50 and 100 grams a day, speeds up weight loss.

- Considering overall activity level, would you say you are more/less active this time than last time it worked for you? (with a stone as weight loss)

It did work for you before, so I would look for differences.
Thanks everyone, my little one is on the mend :-)

Interesting points Gary, I try not to eat carbs at every meal but maybe I should cut them out more. Strangely when I lost weight in November I wasn't exercising at all!
 Hi @Weddingdresstoosmall And Welcome
Keep doing what you're doing and this amazing WOL will soon weave its magic on you.
But yes reducing my carbs kickstarted my weightloss last year I like many members have struggled since early Dec for whatever reason have now decided to make all my fastdays meat free and extra high on veggies and tomorrow's weigh in will show me something or other because I've got a very long way to go and although I'm in no hurry I must admit I am becoming inpatient.
:clover: Good luck and stay focused I'll be here for a longtime yet so we'll journey together. Sue
