Delighted or Disappointed?

8 posts Page 1 of 1
I'm sorry to say that I am disappointed with this week's weigh in.

I lost 4.8 pounds since Oct 7th and now am at a standstill. I went from 189.2 pounds last week to 190.2 pounds this week. I am keeping true to the fast days of 500 calories so don't know what the increase in weight is. My measurements have stayed the same.

I fasted last Monday and Thursday, this Monday and will fast today, Thursday, Nov. 7th. I will hopefully see results at my next weigh-in. Will start counting calories on non-fast days to be sure I'm not over my TDEE.

Any advise is welcome.

I think maybe that's the thing - making sure you don't eat over your TDEE on non fast days. Also best to underestimate rather than overestimate the amount of physical activity you do else you can easily end up eating too much. Calorie counting sounds like a bore but sometimes it's good to get an idea of what you might be eating. Good luck!
Yes, I agree, counting calories is a bore, but I'm willing to bet, I'm over eating on non-fast days. I did find a site --Spark People. It's free and very helpful.

I'm not giving up because, it apparently works. I did lose initially.

Thanks.
Andi, please don't fret over 1lb :) There are oh-so-many reasons that the scales can fluctuate, especially when we've got a lot to lose. With the average loss being around 1lb a week (well, just under) it's so easy for this to be masked by what appears to be a gain or maintain. I wouldn't worry too much if it's just this week - it could be water rentention, food which hasn't passed through yet, hormones - all sorts of things. Yes it's wise to keep track (even if only roughly) of what you're eating on feed days to ensure you're not overeating, but don't stress about it just yet. It's actually quite normal for there to be a small regain or maintain in the early weeks of this method, due to water & fat in your body rebalancing. You lose a lot of water to begin with but will regain some while losing fat, hence a bit of up and downing on the scales.

Thanks for the encouragement. I will keep going with it. It works for others so I'm confident it will work for me.

2 other things - if it is ttotm, you may be retaining water. Certain foods may also cause water retention.

And I just blanked on what the other thing was - maybe someone will fill in my blank!

In any case, it is not unusual for weight to fluctuate. Just go with the flow...

Just remembered the second one - take measurements everywhere. Sometimes when the scales are unkind, you'll find you've lost an inch here or there.

Take Care!
Hi Andi, I'm gaining too and have been for the last 2 weigh ins. I think I know why. The first gain was mostly down to eating way too many carbs and the second gain was that the TOTM sneaked up on me. I've got my fingers crossed for next weigh in for a loss. Just stick with it (that's what all the long timers tell me) and the scales will catch up. I did measure everywhere and have lost inches everywhere when the scale said I've gained. I've put on 3.4lbs in 2 weeks but tape measure said I've lost an inch off my thigh (wow), half an inch off my waist, an inch off under my bust and bits of inches everywhere else, in the same time. Stay positive (I know it's easier said than done), it is happening, only we've got to change our mind set, we've been trained to only trust the scales when that's not the best way of tracking our weight loss in the short term. There is also a great thread on here somewhere about water and weight etc, I'm not sure where it is but I sure someone else will know. It's like the link Moogie put up, very go read.

Thanks for the link @Moogie I've never seen your blog before, I've got lots to read now. :)

Well done on a good start, stick with it as I will and I'm sure we'll be seeing losses before very long. :) Good luck :clover:

Hi:

There is no reason to believe weight loss should be in a straight line down. Water weight alone can impact your weight by two or more pounds a day.

Here is what you might expect: post71147.html#p71147

Good Luck!
