How much should I be losing
05 May 2016, 17:39
I've been doing 5.2 for 14 weeks religiously never going over the 500 calories.
I've lost in total 9 pounds. Do you think that's ok Or should I be doing more ?
I save all my calories until the evening usually around 6pm ish. No later than 7. It's easier for me to not eat in the day & knowing I've got something substantial to eat when I get home. I drink water ++++ throughout the day.
Some weeks I don't lose any it's so disappointing.
But I'm going to keep at it as I don't won't to unravel what I've already achieved.
I'm now 10st 7. My goal is 10st.
I must admit you do feel so good the day after a starve day even if the scales don't show the right number lol
Thank you

Hi sharon, you have done so well, sticking to a classic 5:2 week for 14 weeks! Well done not going over the 500 cals on fast and repair days.
I know 9 lb is disappointing in that we hear the average loss is a pound a week ( and if you had lost that much,it would now be a very satisfying one stone loss!) but its still a wonderful amount to lose..just imagine carrying nine pounds of potatoes or imagine 9 lbs worth of blocks of butter! You'll have done yr health so much good shedding those pesky pounds..its more than 5% lost from yr total body weight,so youve lessened the risk of diabetes, stroke, heart attack already.
Pls dont be downhearted...remember,everyone is different..as an example, i didnt lose anything for five weeks then lost on average two pounds a week for several weeks.. I guess it depends on a lot of factors like how much you have to lose, if you have any medical conditions etc.....these things can influence results.
Never forget also, that if you measure yrself, you might find you have lost a very satisfactory amount of inches!
Also, notice how yr clothes feel looser!
Sounds to me like you are managing so well as you are,you should give yrself a pat on the back, and continue the same for now,see what happens...Dont be too impatient, you have only half a stone more to lose,Nd its not a race, its a Way of Life.
One thing you could check, tho its a pain to count calories,is see how much you're eating on non fast days..try to keep below/ just up to yr TDEE if youre not already doing so..maybe throw in a 1000 cal day here and there.
Well done, you seem to have5:2 licked! * high five* x

Thank you so much for that. That's cheered me up.
It's good to chat to people that understand the 5.2
Would be great if a friend or work college would give it a go with me. But they are mostly on the slimming world diets & Weight watchers ( so not me) 7 days of dieting double yuk. This suits me just fine. The scales can be your worst enemy or bestie friend lol but I will give the measuring a go for sure. Plus no ones even noticed the weight loss yet :(
But hey ho i will not give up. It makes me feel so good anyway. Esp when u wake up the day after fasting. Thank you again x

Hi @sharon, my progress has been much the same as yours, having done 5:2 on and off since the start in 2013 I have only lost 10lb, though I have lost 3-4" from my waist. Are you already in the healthy BMI range? I'm sure I have read that if you are bigger to start with an awful lot of water weight comes off whereas if you are near your goal progress can be quite slow as you are purely buring fat. What others have said is really true - if you imagine 9lb as 18 packets of butter, or even better, lard, it really is a great achievement. I do think IF is so much more about real health benefits than just weight. When I have had wobbly days (mentally and physically) I have had a look at the 5:2 lab part of the forum, to reassure myself that it's all based on sound science - there are some great links to documentaries and articles from all over the world. All the best on your journey

Well done @sharon you are doing so well. You don't mention exercise so perhaps you could increase your activity level for a few weeks and see if that makes a difference? I also recommend joining Piper's current challenge. You will get friendship, chat and weekly accountability there.

Thank you everyone
I'm going to try a little exercise also. Nothing to drastic but something I will stick to. Plus the measuring I will start today. My BMI is 26.
I'm 5ft 3 & 10st 7 & 45 years old.
I tried some summer clothes on last night ( as hopefully the weather is finally changing here in England ) & I got a little thrill as they defo fit me better than last year. It's my weigh in this morning so fingers crossed. Even if it's half a pound lol
There is nothing better than the taste of any food the day after a fast. It so makes you appreciate food more. Many thanx again.
This site is truly amazing x

Well done @sharon, you're doing great. My 21 hour fast yesterday gave a 600g loss today so hurrah to us :0)
You may like to incorporate some 16:8 into your routine, I find eating just between noon and 8pm quite do-able and all adds to the good health we're after.
Good luck to you and keep on fasting \o/

Don't be discouraged, I only ever lose half a pound a week at the most, you're doing really well.

Also, no one ever notices my weight loss until I've lost about a stone. This is because most people lose the visceral fat (fat around the organs) first, which is a lot less noticeable. But it is a very good thing as that is the fat that is really bad for your health.

Keep up the good work!
