Hurrah!
01 Oct 2013, 10:30
Well, I am pretty pleased. Ages ago, I predictably plateaued at 10st and couldn't for the love of god shift anything. Then I went on holiday and didn't think about fasting at all. I did eat noticeably more salad and less bread than I did last year on hols (we were in France, and usually stuff our faces with cheese and pates, french bread and beer). Anyway, I halfheartedly fasted a little when we got back but never really got back into fasting the way I had before I plateaued, and I gained about 3lbs

Last week I decided to bite the bullet and start again. I weighed myself this morning and the 3lbs have shifted. I am at my classic plateau weight again now, BUT shifting those pesky lbs has given me the kick I needed to carry on. Score!

To here's to hoping the bit of weight gain will help kickstart the loss again, if that makes sense.

Has anyone else found that quitting for a while, then starting up again, at a lower weight than when you started the first time around helps kick things into gear again?

This is what Prof Amanda Salis recommended to beat the 'famine effect', cheat the body back into thinking it isn't 'starving'. Obviously it works! Fingers crossed for the rest of the journey! :clover:

I have recently done it as my son calculated that we were under eating on our normal days by about 600kcals on average. So I upped the consumption and increased the carbs and seem to have re-started the downward trend. Well I hope so anyway.

I'm hoping it works like that for me. 2 weeks off and 2.5 kilo gain. One fast and I'm down a kilo. Only time will tell.

Great news for you! I think it has happened to a number of people on here as well ... So it,s definitely worth thinking of as a tool in the 5:2 armour!

I think this is a very sound strategy, I did it when I had stalled for what seemed like forever and it worked so I'd definitely reccommend it

I have noticed recently that my weight is slightly down on a Monday
As opposed to Friday I weigh in Fri before indulging for the weekend,
And I always give advice saying mix it up because yes that works for me doing a couple of 16:8 in between the fastdays

Great news. It also makes me less nervous about not fasting when I go away next week. Hope you continue on your downwards trend :)
