I give up with the scales!!
06 Feb 2014, 12:06
When i first joined im sure u will remember i got brand new fancy scales that do you weight bmi water etc and i was actually 50 pounds lighter than what i thought i was with mu broken old scales, well i did my weigh in and i was happy to have lost 5 pounds to take me to 15.6 i stood on the scales 3 times and got the same figure. my other half asked me to give him the scales down so he could check his weight so i did and i was a stone heavier in that room.

I have since weight my self in every room in this house and my weight ranges from 14 stone to 17 stone depending what room i am in. I imagine it must be to do with the flooring and the sad thing is at my heaviest of 17 stone it was just bare floor so i imagine that one is going to be probably most accurate.
I know they say dont move your scales about but when i realised it was so different i wanted to get a true weight. Now my dilemma, do i cheat myself and leave them in the room where i am 2 stone lighter but deep down i know this is cheating myself lol

This is week 3 of my journey so goodness knows what i was to start with and how much i have lost will just need to go with my clothes lol

Hi there Caroline, take all of your measurements as they will give you an ongoing indication of whether you are losing inches as opposed to pounds, kilos etc. the other option is to ignore your starting weight and weight yourself in exactly the same place every time and see how the weight drops. The other alternative is to get your weight checked at the doctors.
Hope this helps!

I would just choose a spot and keep my scales in the same place. My scales live in my ensuite and that is where they stay.

Another suggestion is to take some measurements e.g. bust, waist and hips but you can go and measure your arms (around your biceps), calves, neck etc if you do a google search I am sure you will find suggestions of where and how to measure yourself.

Some months I have more of a weight loss and other months I have more of a centimetre loss.

Scales are just a tool, don't let the tool rule your life it is just there to help you along the way.

hths.

Thanks for your reply's, Yeah I've got my measurements not much change there yet. I have decided to be brave and place it on the wooden floor and it records me at my heaviest and keep it there as this will give me a true indication of my weight. at least i had a week thinking i was 3 stone lighter lol & when i'm feeling down ill take it up stairs to the carpeted room that records me 4 stone lighter lol

 Hi @Caroline75 Yes I remember that episode and yes the tape measure + clothing are a better indication of what's going on, we can't help it but we all put to much emphasis on our sometimes naughty scales
its human nature. ( at this moment I'm ready to chuck mine out of the window)

One particular item of clothing is good then retry now + again not to often though.

Thanks sue, I will keep calm and not let the scales put me off. No matter what my start weight is and what my weight is now i know its less than what it was and that's the main thing. I do have a fav pair of denims that i cant get on just now so every now and then i will try them on and see how close i am to getting into them. I hope you have better luck with your scales soon x

So sorry about that. Here's what I would do. Weigh yourself today on the old spot and on the new spot (hardest bare floor you've got). Add the difference in weight to your starting point, so you get a better picture of your progress.

Don't beat yourself up too badly, you're still almost 2 stone less than you thought you were, right?

In the end, the scales don't matter that much as they don't change any of the facts - who you are, what your relative health is, etc etc. They're a measurement tool, but that's all they are. The thing is, where you weigh yourself may produce a different number on the scale, but it doesn't change the truth, your clothes, your health, etc. So just take a deep breath and try not to worry about it to much.

Correct the error and move on :-)

The tape measure is very reliable: apart from that I put my scales in exactly the same place every time I weigh myself and I also wear the same clothes i.e. not a lot! I also weigh at the same time of day too.
You could just throw them out of the window, but I think that's a bit drastic!

Thanks Tracieknits, I will do that tomorrow to find my weight loss to date. Then do all subsequent weigh ins on the hard floor. I am not stressing as you pointed out i'm still a lot lighter than what my old broken sales said so that can only be a good thing and i know its just a guide my clothes and health will tell the story better than any scales.
Thanks again ladies
Caroline
