Inches vs kg

I am reading all these posts from people who have dropped inches from their waist's and their trousers are falling off and they need new jeans, and I am just baffled.
But it is not just this WOE, on all the other diets I see where people lost 5kg and 3 dress sizes or something similar and I just dont get it.

Since January this year, through various methods I have lost 8-9kg. Yet most of my trousers and other clothes still fit me?!?!? :?:
I dont know whether my clothes were just too tight back in January, or they are looser in other places now.
I have a couple of pairs of stretchy jeans that now get loose after a few hours of wear, but a lot of my clothes still fit my just fine. Very confusing and so I dont understand these poeple that lose inches so quickly, maybe I need to add measuring my waist, and actually get the measurement.

Hello!

I think you should add measuring your waist, it's supposed to be a more accurate measure of health risks than bmi and if weight loss is slow you can sometimes lose inches but no weight. I have found that around 5 kilos lost is about a dress size but this varies from person to person, and also depends on the kind of clothes you wear. I have a couple of pairs of skinny jeans that still fit but I bought a new pair of jeans with no stretch in them a size smaller!

I hear you! It's only recently that I can wear a size smaller but that size was in my closet previous, I've tried on new clothes in the store and they are too tight or maybe just wrong style. My clothes were just too tight at the beginning of embarking on this WoE! I was busting out of my size 16's and dreading having to go and buy some 18's when I found this 'diet'. I'm into my 14's now but there is still a pair size 16 jeans that I can wear just after wash/dry but very bagging after a few hours of wearing.

How frustrating (and annoying!) for you :(
I also have a wardrobe that can accommodate change in weight of several kgs without me really realising it - that always made it easy for me to kid myself that I wasn't putting on weight!! Which is why I now don't use clothes as an indicator of weight.
I echo what Nicky said. How and where we lose weight does vary from person to person, so it is worth taking waist, bust, hips, thigh measurements and monitoring these. I measure these but only once a month, cos it takes that long for them to show a change. (I think I have lost just under an inch a month from each of those vital statistics, as well as about 2kg in weight per month, since I started 5:2. Probably 2-3 dress sizes.)
Do you have scales that show %body fat and %water - it is worth monitoring these too. It is possible that you may have lost water as well as fat in your total weight loss, so that wouldn't translate into inches quite so much. It is important to keep well hydrated. I use % and kg measures of body fat as a better indicator of weight loss than total weight.
Good luck with 5:2 - hope it does lead to the changes you desire :)

Some good advice from everyone here. Measuring is the key. I have lost 3 inches off my waist since starting this new WOE and yet I'm still in the same clothes. The reason is that I too was wearing things waaaayy too tight. Especially jeans that are stretchy :shock: :shock:

Lost 6in off my waist and only just bought trousers a size smaller. I think it depends on your shape as well - my waist was way out of proportion with the rest of me (ie too big!)

I am losing inches rather than weight too but am happy with this. I also wore tight jeans with long tops to hide the muffin top. Now I can wear TShirts or a little jumper and the muffin top has gone. I am no longer an apple!

Whilst stretchy clothes can be comfortable and accommodate weight fluctuations I also think that they can be very unhelpful. I have one hip which protrudes more that the other so when I where something structured like a lined skirt just above the knee I look slimmer that when wearing a stretchy longer skirt. My husband has threatened to throw out my fave plum coloured jeans from last wither because they're all wrinkly after a few hours of wearing.

I think I was wearing my clothes a bit on the small side before I started - especially tops so some of them just look better now. Skirts just sit lower on my hips and look longer but I can still wear some of them. It's trousers where the loss really shows - they look baggy on the bum. I'm having real trouble finding trosers to fit because I still have a belly -- anything that goes round that is too big on the legs!
I think you can make do for a while but suddenly you will realise that something is just too big and has to go. Just enjoy wearing your favourites while you can@al4285 because it is hard to say goodbye to them :cry:

I have been thinking the same thing. Most of my clothes still fit despite a loss that has some people dropping 3 sizes. Only my trousers are becoming unwearable.

Thanks everyone.
After all of that I slipped into a smaller pair of jeans this morning and am doing a little happy dance. I only have one pair of jeans that I can wear at the moment and these just doubled the amount I have to wear. I guess thinking about it I do have three pairs of jeans that are a bit too big.
But I do still have plenty of skirts and trousers that do fit even after all the change.
I still have three pairs which are a little too tight around the middle to wear outside just yet - major muffin!!! Something to aim for.

And on a different note I fasted yesterday and went to the gym to do weights and I was a machine, my other half asked if we needed to drug test me!!! Feeling good! :)
