Delighted or Disappointed?

Last Friday I thought to myself, I cannot keep looking like a sack of potatoes and buy some clothes that actually ‘fit’

Started mid June and currently have lost 2 stone, 6-7” off my waist and 5” off the hips. I didn’t take measurements when I started unfortunately, but had some idea.

I am an apple shape, and always had a high waist to hip ratio, even when was a size 10/12 (12 being the top). At one point in 1992 I was 8/10 !! I have only worn a fixed waist band in my life for a very short time, I just find them so uncomfortable, so elastic is the only way for me

Back on track, shopping trip

So off I trot to Hedge End M&S (one of the largest ones outside London), got there around 5pm, as from past experience, its very quiet and you can take whatever you like in the changing rooms !

Previous years this would fill me with dread, what will I find, take at least two sizes of everything in with me. In the end it was a case of, ok, that will do, there is nothing else around.

Before 5/2 my sizing for M&S was 18 (top and bottom, bordering 20 for some tops), and cheap t-shirts were 22. I didn’t look a 22, but that’s what fitted

Grabbed several size 16 tops and into the changing rooms. Umm, appear to be fitting ok ish.

However, once thing is glaringly obvious, bra size… oh lordy, talk about shapeless and in dire need of filling the cup :pissedoff: Only bought 3 gorgeous bra’s this summer, and being a larger cup size, the choice ain’t massive ! I always get measured and some places are better than others. Managed to get a fitting, and yep, down a size and also the cup ! Why do boobs always go this way ! Could this mean more choice, like pretty colours and shapes…. Watch this space :victory:

Wander round some more and can only find a size 14 in one top, so I thought, ok, lets have a laugh ! But no…. it fits :like: This got me thinking (rare occurrence!), the tops I liked in 16, lets try a 14. After getting the whole selection in size 14, this is now my new size ! One top was rather snug so forgot that one.

I was only interested in some tops as I had already bought size 16 trousers a few weeks back as my 18’s were falling down.

Got some smaller underwear to replace my Bridget Jones HUGE pants !
Been trying some winter stuff from the wardrobe over the weekend on to see how stupid they look. Looks like I have lost quite a bit on the arms as they are now loose and the sleeves are longer ! Had to turn them up.

So now I just need a couple of work type tops to tide me over the transition period. Won’t be long before nothing fits in the wardrobe and next spring, I have not one thing that will fit !

It all feels totally alien after 2 decades of buying plus size clothing. I am slowly accepting my smaller size, but its hard!
No one at work has noticed my loss (unless they know I am 5/2), and I put this down to wearing clothes that clearly don’t fit.

I was going to hold off buying bra’s and tops, but it’s a bit demoralizing looking in the mirror seeing sack of spuds !

I wasn’t expecting to have to replace so much in the wardrobe, didn’t dawn on me that I would loose the inches!

Tomorrow I am going bra shopping, another fitting, but this is an independent old school type I have used before, so no rush, plenty of choice and advise, then see if I can get a couple of tops for work. Don’t want to spend too much or buy a lot as I guess I will still change whilst the weight is coming off over the winter – well that’s the plan

Sorry for the very long post !
That is so inspiring minigill.
Well done and congratulations.
Saw a post on facebook today to support breast cancer awareness. It's encouraging us ladies to 'let the tatas free'! Maybe something to consider for the future? ;)
I find inner hidden shelf-support camisole tops far more comfortable than bras, though not as easy to find in the shops. When they come into fashion I buy several to tide me over when they go out again.
It's not the same hike 'em up and jut them out effect but gives gentle support, less likely to get hot and sweaty so healthier too.
That's great. I can't wait til I need new thing. What a great feeling, trying on things and them fitting :) well done!

WoW, you really are living up to your name Minigill! Well done you! :like:
Conratulations on the loss. I bet you look great in your new clothes.
That is fantastic - well done you :like:

I remember when I first lost weight (many years ago) and found out one day that I actually couldn't buy clothes in Evans any longer. What an amazing feeling that was  It sounds like you will be there very soon :clover:
Brilliant news.

I sat this morning taking down the hems of a pair of cargo pants that no longer fit. I realised they had to go when I went to the toilet and yanked them down without undoing the button or zip. That plus the fact that the waistband is now under my boobs. So a wash and iron and on to ebay with them, to support my next clothes buying spree.

Ah yes, I have had that feeling before of not having to shop at Evans as that was the only clothes that would fit !

It felt very strange just looking nearer the front of the rail for the 14 instead of the back, or the larger sizes on another rail !

Going to Romsey in the morning, so looking forward to looking at some brands that would stop at say 16 before! However, as we all know, sizing can be a nightmare from make to make

Looking forward to getting a bra that fits though, and not stuck with, well you have a choice of this colour or that or two styles ! I could fit a whole chicken in each cup with my current bra, let alone a chicken fillet to fill em out !

One thing when I was measured in M&S on Friday, she brought me a padded bra. Was a bit puzzled by this. She then went on to inform me when you loose weight it goes from the top of the boob, so padding helps with shape ! Wasn't sure whether to feel upset at the loss of what was there, or embrace the new size

Wondered why so many bra's up to large sizes & cups were padded! I know why now :like:

Will report back tomorrow
Lovely, cheering and inspiring to read this Gill!
Whole new horizon opening up for you! X
