Well when u see people daily, they don't notice the weight loss. I have recently bumped into 2 people who haven't seen for ages - both were amazed at my weight loss. One was doing 5:2 but couldn't hack it. Mini me (or mini u!)...wow you look amazing! Those were the comments. We take it for granted we have lost, but when people notice, it's quite a shock.

Fantastic boost though, isn't it?
Well done and fantastic when someone gives you that sort of confidence boost I recently saw a friend I usually see monthly and not knowing I'm on any sort of diet/plan she looked at me and told me my hair looked nice Lol but as I'm sort of ''undercover'' at the moment I don't mind that at all But for all of us it's the motivation we need to carry on.
Good Luck Sue

I am undercover and noone is noticing yet but I am not especially wanting them to, because I am trying to curb my need for praise from others as a motivation tool. In previous diets I craved that praise and notice but of course this naturally tails off quickly but it was almost as if I needed permission from others to keep up the good work or as if I needed acknowledgement from others to boost my self esteem and willpower. So this time I have decided that I must praise myself and keep my eye firmly on my goals and remember that there is only one person whose opinion on my success or failure really matters and ultimately really cares - and that of course is me.
That's great, GMH!
Wise words from Anne GMH (and I love the DeGeneres quote (I think I'm that grandmother!).
I've lost about 6 kg since Christmas and people I don't see every day are starting to notice but people I see more regularly don't. I'm waiting for them to say something because I think that is the true test. A couple of people have said non-specific things like: "You're looking good, I like those jeans" but not specifically referring to weight loss. (The jeans of course are new and a size smaller than the ones they are more used to seeing.) If people aren't tuned in to the fact that you are trying to lose weight then they probably won't notice - I find it's other people who are also trying to lose weight who notice.
The important thing is to give ourselves a big tick and ultimately we are the only people who will benefit from the weight loss - health wise.
And, of course we can brag about it here and no one is going to think we are crazy or boring or up ourselves, because we are all on the same wavelength.

I'm retired and live in a small town where I taught high school Spanish for 20 years. I see former students all the time, often after many years of not seeing them. Some of them don't recognize me--they still expect to see the rotund former me. They are so surprised and complimentary when they realize it is me.
It is fab, isn't it? Well done!
Such fun to see the amazed reactions, and one deserves that pleasure after persevering over the weeks/ months. I agree, Anne, that this recognition really isn't all that matters for keeping motivated, but it's good to be acknowledged. My motivation comes from feeling healthier and more energetic, moving well, and enjoying a slimmer body in fitting clothes! It's like a new lease of life.
The only one who has noticed on me so far is my dentist! LOL
Good for you GMH!

After 3 and a half months, people at work are noticing, and we had a discussion about 5:2, BMIs and the health benefits this morning. They were curious about TDEE etc, and all interested and I think a couple might try it, in spite of them all having healthy BMIs (all checked on the spot!) Nice to get such good reactions - especially the girl who thought I looked as if I'd lost about 10lb!! Those measurements were really worth taking back at the start ...
And good on yer GML!

Congratulations on your success, GMH. My SO and I have gotten noticed too. It is a wonderful time to extol the benefits of 5:2.
We've got some neighbours who recently came over to watch the Eat, Fast, and Live Longer programme; they had their first fast day yesterday.

People at work said it was time to buy some new pants. It's hard to let go of those, but I know it's time. Have a few others at work 5:2g also...great support system.
Doey the denrist could probably get into your mouth easier LOL! Thanks all, I think it's just the realisation that I am a skinny mini now, having a fat/voluptuos image of myself in my head. Saw another friend today who is also on 5:2 and she commented as well - of course as I did with her. The thing is...don't tell anyone...sshhh...it's a secret...it's a bloody miracle to be hoeing into all those cakes and wine and ending up slim! I don't feel like I have worked hard.
